Introduction

Job location: Oklahoma History Center, 800 Nazih Zuhdi Drive, Oklahoma City, OK.

Curator of American Indian Collections
(1) Responsible for the care, management, development, and documentation of American Indian Collections and other specific areas of the general Oklahoma Museum of History and the Oklahoma Historical Society Collections as assigned and necessary.

(2) Responsible for conducting research on Museum and Oklahoma Historical Society Collections or collections related questions.

(3) Will interact with the public and provide information as required and necessary in response to public inquiries

(4) Responsible for providing assistance as required for education, exhibits, and other museum or History Center programs and events.

BASIC PURPOSE

Positions in this job family are assigned responsibilities involving the development, care and management of museum or other historic collections, including three-dimensional objects, documents, photographs, artwork, and electronic medium.  These collections cover both historic and prehistoric and cultural as well as natural history.

LEVEL DESCRIPTORS

This job family has four levels which are distinguished based on the complexity of work, the experience required to perform assigned duties, and the responsibility for the supervision of others.

Level II:    
This is the career level of this job family where employees perform a full range of curatorial functions in collections care and management at the full performance level.  Some responsibilities may be assigned on a limited basis for providing training and guidance to other personnel assisting on assigned projects.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Level II: 
Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of a bachelor’s degree in history, museum studies, anthropology or a closely related field and two years of experience in the care and management of historical collection or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
