Positions in this job family are assigned responsibilities involving the management of the agency's risk program and/or providing consultation to agency leadership in planning, developing, and implementing relevant protocols. This includes providing guidance, assistance, and training to other agency personnel in the performance of assigned tasks.
This position will administer the programs and policy related to Workers' Compensation, drug testing, accidents and workplace violence.  The position will supervise two to three Risk Management Specialists.  
The responsibilities will include daily coordination, supervision, and administration of the agency’s drug-free workplace program including issues regarding for-cause, post-accident, and pre-employment random drug testing compliance requirements; development of criteria and policy for medicinal marijuana; work with drug testing sites to ensure agency protocol is followed; administer, plan and implement agency risk management functions to include evaluations and recommendations pertaining to automobile operations, liability, exposure, property, and casualty; oversee daily submission of complete, accurate, and timely safety accident reports; provide training and guidance to  agency personnel on various risk management policies to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations; develop preventive measures to reduce agency liability;  coordinate with agency partners regarding accidents and injuries; cooperate in the preparation of material and evidence for use in hearings, lawsuits, and insurance investigations; responsible for the agency’s workers’ compensation program ensuring timely processing of claims including working with the insurance carrier to reduce employee lost time; and develop budget forecasts and plan insurance requirements for upcoming year in conjunction with the Operational Finance Officer.
Knowledge and application of relevant regulatory and industry standards, best practices, and guidelines.

Ability to analyze, identify solutions, and project consequences of proposed actions.

Skill in interpreting, understanding, and complying with complex regulations, standards, procedures, and laws.

Skilled in maintaining confidential records and information.        

Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
At least 5 or more years’ experience in the risk management field; proven ability to implement, administer, and evaluate the effectiveness of risk management programs.

A conditional offer of employment to final candidate will be contingent upon a favorable background check and a substance abuse screening.

This is a full-time unclassified state position with full state retirement and insurance benefits, including paid health, dental, life, and disability insurance. Annual leave of 10 hours per month and sick leave of 10 hours per month begin accruing immediately.
