OSDH is seeking a full time Laboratory Scientist providing support to the Public Health Laboratory. This is a classified position in state government, located in Oklahoma State Department of Health. This position analyzes samples from a variety of sources for the isolation and identification of Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex and other Mycobacterium species. The laboratory uses high-pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC), DNA probes and biochemical assays to identify organisms to the species level. This position also performs drug susceptibility testing on Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex isolates. This position performs reference mycology testing identifying yeasts and molds for clinical laboratories in Oklahoma.
Positions within this professional job family are assigned responsibilities for performing work associated with clinical and/or analytic laboratory testing.
The Laboratory Scientist job family consists of four levels (basic, career, specialist and leadership) which are distinguished based on the complexity of assigned duties, the expertise required to complete various assignments, and the responsibility assigned for providing training, leadership and supervision to others.
This is the career level of this job family where incumbents perform laboratory bench work related to a wide spectrum of routine clinical and/or analytic laboratory tests with the ability to work independently.
Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of a master's degree in biological or physical science, or a closely related field; OR a bachelor's degree in biological or physical sciences, or a closely related field, plus two years of experience performing clinical and/or analytic laboratory testing.
