Under general supervision, enforce County parking ordinances and policies by patrolling assigned areas, issuing warnings and citations, and ordering impounding of illegally parked vehicles as necessary.
Receives general supervision from assigned higher-level supervisory or management staff.
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Patrol and issue warnings and citations in assigned areas where parking is controlled or prohibited by County ordinance, code, or agreement; order impounding of illegally parked vehicles as necessary.
- Advise and educate the public on parking regulations; direct drivers to move vehicles parked illegally to avoid citations; explain applicable laws, policies, and procedures to the public.
- Operate a radio-equipped vehicle and license plate recognition equipment, if applicable, to patrol and enforce parking restrictions in assigned locations.
- Answer questions, address complaints, and respond to requests for information from the public and County staff in relation to parking violations or regulations.
- Log and report daily activities and all suspicious incidents; advise management, law enforcement, and/or emergency personnel of unusual activity, possible safety hazards, vehicles parked overnight, leaking vehicles, and medical emergencies.
- Report missing or damaged parking signs.
- Maintain appropriate records; retrieve data from electronic data processing systems; prepare, review, and maintain forms, files, documents, and correspondence.
- Prepare and deliver verbal and written reports; appear in court as necessary.
- Install and remove tire chains.
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers, other County employees, and the public using principles of effective customer service.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Work is primarily performed outdoors in a variety of environmental and weather conditions requiring travel throughout the County. Some duties may be performed in an indoor office environment with controlled temperature conditions.
Experience and Training
Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience: One (1) year of experience involving frequent public contact, preferably in a law enforcement agency.
Training: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.
Required License or Certificate:
Possession of a valid driver’s license. Proof of adequate vehicle insurance and medical clearance may also be required.
Length of Probation:
All permanent appointments to this classification shall serve a probationary period of twelve (12) calendar months or two thousand eighty (2,080) hours, whichever is more.
