To coordinate the work of specified County offices and departments, both elective and appointive, or a complex function within the County Executive Office; to analyze and recommend policies and procedures related to the departments; and to provide highly complex staff assistance to the County Executive Officer and Assistant County Executive Officer.
The Deputy County Executive Officer has responsibility for coordinating the activities of assigned departments that provide diverse but related services, or for a complex function within the County Executive Office involving work performed for or by various departments.
Receives administrative direction from the County Executive Officer and Assistant County Executive Officer.
Exercises direct supervision over professional personnel.
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

In the absence of both the County Executive Officer and the Assistant County Executive Office, assume the responsibility of the County Executive Officer as needed.

Coordinate the work of specified County departments and offices, especially those activities, programs and projects involving multiple departments and functions.

Consult with elected and appointed department heads concerning policy, administrative and operational problems in assigned departments.

Monitor and review operations of assigned departments for policy, fiscal, operational and political impacts.

Conduct, or assist with conducting policy, staffing and operational studies, primarily involving assigned departments.

Review, develop and coordinate the installation or implementation of new systems, projects, programs and procedures.

Provide support and supervision over selected policy, operational and fiscal matters within the Office of County Executive; and assist in the preparation of the County budget.

Represent the County Executive Office with the public on a variety of boards, task forces and committees and with other public agencies related to assigned departments; participate in outside community and professional groups and committees; provide technical assistance as necessary.

May assist in the review and development of expenditures and revenue requests or sources.

May serve as County Executive Offer administrative analyst for selected complex or major departments.

May supervise directly, on either a continuous or intermittent basis, a variety of departments, activities and subordinate staff.

Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other County employees and the public using principles of good customer service.

Research and prepare technical and administrative reports; prepare written correspondence.

Perform related duties as assigned.
Experience and Training
Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience: Five years of increasingly responsible experience in county government including two years of management responsibility.
Training: Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in business or public administration or a related field.
Required License or Certificate:
May need to possess a valid driver’s license as required by the position. Proof of adequate vehicle insurance and medical clearance may also be required.
