This is the supplemental questionnaire for the classification of Senior Crime Analyst. Part I will not be scored or used for determining minimum qualifications. Part II will not be scored or used for determining minimum qualifications but is provided to the applicant for informational purposes prior to completing the questionnaire. Applicants are required to demonstrate how they meet the minimum qualifications for this position on their application. Part III will be scored based on your checked responses.

Part I: Conviction Questionnaire (Not Scored)

Questions in this section will be used as a screening tool only and will not be scored.

Have you been convicted of a crime?

Please note conviction of a crime is not necessarily a bar to employment.  Each case is considered separately based upon specific job requirements.

You must disclose all convictions, including reckless and drunk driving convictions even if:

• It happened a long time ago;
• It was only a misdemeanor;
• You didn’t have to go to court (your attorney went for you);
• You had no jail time or the sentence was only a fine or probation;
• You received a certificate of rehabilitation;
• The conviction was later dismissed, set aside or the sentence was suspended.

You may OMIT:

• Minor traffic violations;
• Any offense committed prior to your 18th birthday which was formally adjudicated in a Juvenile Court or under a youth offender law;
• Any incident sealed under Welfare & Institutions Code 781 or Penal Code 1203.45;
• Any offenses committed under Health & Safety Codes 11357(b) or (c); 11360(c); 11364; 11365 or 11550 as related to marijuana prior to 1/1/1976 or any other conviction mentioned in Labor Code 432.8.

Part II: Minimum Qualifications (Not Scored)

This section will not be scored or used for determining minimum qualifications but is provided to the applicant for informational purposes prior to completing the questionnaire. Applicants are required to demonstrate how they meet the minimum qualifications for this position on their application.

Do you possess two (2) years of responsible professional experience in a law enforcement agency performing duties similar to a Crime Analyst II with Placer County? If yes, please describe all related duties in the Employment Record section of your application.

Do you possess equivalent to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in criminal justice, crime analysis, law enforcement/public safety, public administration, intelligence studies, homeland security, statistics and research methodology, computer science, geographic information systems, or a related field?

List your field of study/major.

Do you possess a Crime and Intelligence Analysis certification or equivalent comparable certification?

Part III: Training and Experience Examination (Scored)

This supplemental questionnaire will serve as the Civil Service examination for this recruitment and will be scored based on your checked responses below.

Scores received from this section will determine applicant ranking and placement on the eligible list. Resumes, letters, and other materials will not be evaluated or considered as responses to the items in the supplemental questionnaire. In addition, responses to this questionnaire will not be used for determining minimum qualifications for this position.

INSTRUCTIONS: For the following questions, please indicate your level of training and/or experience:

Analyzing problems, identifying alternative solutions, projecting consequences of proposed actions, and implementing recommendations in support of goals.

Understanding and interpreting complex rules, laws, regulations, and procedures.

Maintaining confidentiality of highly sensitive information. 

Preparing a variety of bulletins and other time-sensitive materials for dissemination of information.

Collecting, researching, and analyzing complex or highly sensitive law enforcement, crime, and intelligence data from multiple intelligence databases using qualitative and quantitative methods.

Maintaining liaison with staff from other jurisdictions, agencies, departments, and/or the Sheriff's Office to share and exchange crime and intelligence information.

Developing and maintaining specialized databases, files, records, and automated systems, which may include  working with activity logs, unit statistics, and crime data.

Using computer systems and software, including word processing, spreadsheet, logic/hypothesis testing, mapping/GIS, charting and graphing, data mining, database applications and architecture, and web-based computer applications.
