 Machining Production Associate 

Salvage/Disassembly/Cleaning

Operates machines and production equipment in accordance with quality and productivity requirements safely in a manufacturing environment with limited guidance. Cummins Turbo Technologies has openings for a Machining Production Associates on 1st shift and 3rd shift to support the new Remanufacturing site in Ladson. Cummins Turbo Technologies is a team-based work environment which requires strong communication skills, respect for others, and a positive work ethic.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a team-based environment
  • Follow safe work practices
  • Rotate to different stations based on business requirement
  • Understand and use process documentation, standardized work procedures, and basic quality controls
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities as required
  • Complete daily Op Care/Validation/Check off Sheets
  • Perform 5S activities
  • Maintain TAKT boards and mini-business trackers 
  • Participate/contribute to mini-business meetings Stop work and immediately report any major injury hazards
  • Report any work-related injury, illness, incident or hazard
  • Engage in Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Training
  • Comply with HSE standards, policies, procedures & regulations
  • Use appropriate personal protective equipment
  • Promote interdependence by looking out for one another
  • Correct hazards within your control and capabilities
  • Recognize how your work may impact the environment and work to minimize the negative impact
  • Follows all applicable standard work, process documentation and quality procedures such as Statistical Process Control (SPC), poka-yoke and visual standards
  • Raise issues to minimize cost and quality exposures
  • Perform quality inspections
  • Identify and control non-conforming material
  • Operate manual and automated equipment to manufacture and assemble product in order to create the proper characteristics and dimensions necessary to meet customer expectations
  • Demonstrate a high level of competency in core work skills
  • Achieve production goals
  • Work at the required cycle time or defined engineering standard
  • Maintain clean and orderly work area, including routine housekeeping tasks and machine cleaning tasks and performs planned operator care and maintenance tasks
  • Remain flexible and performs other miscellaneous duties, as required, to meet production goals
  • Work with peers, skilled trades and support staff to maintain and identify equipment needing repair
  • Communicate effectively with the assigned team and with all support teams
  • Complete training and personal development in line with business requirements
  • Participate actively in ways to improve quality, safety, process, material flow, and employee development

Essential Job Functions:

  • Ability to lift and inspect 32 lb. turbine housing at a rate of 22 units/hour. Inspection includes top, bottom, flange and all rounded edgesAbility to lift from thigh height 32 lb. turbine housings
  • Ability to handle small rivets and place in machine fixture to assemble nozzle rings
  • Must be able to reach the ground and have enough hand/finger dexterity to pick up small dropped parts
  • Must read small gauges and measurements accurately
  • Must be able to continuously stand and walk for 2 hours at a time, up to 12 hours per shift
Qualifications:  Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or certificate of completion of secondary education or equivalent experience to the extent such experience meets applicable regulations
  • 6 months CNC machining experienced strongly preferred
  • Experience in measuring equipment preferred: indicators, micrometers, and gauging
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Strong math skills
  • This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations
  • This position requires some work experience or intermediate level knowledge obtained through education, training
  • or on-the-job experience
