Prepress Technician
The Prepress Technician ensures that electronic customer files and layouts contain the necessary components; prepares files to match the intention of the designer; prepares and checks files to make them printable. This position must have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively with all Smartpress’s departmental teams and with the clients. This role utilizes available programming software and Adobe Creative Suite tools to manipulate, analyze, and output print ready files and supporting ticket information for production. This role is also responsible for identifying process improvement opportunities and automating and standardizing workflow utilizing PitStop software
Job Duties:
- Ensures that files and layouts contain the necessary components; checks colors and ensure they match the desired end product; checks file resolution
- Prepares files to match the original art design
- Prepares and checks files to assure that they are printable; ensures files are imposed and stepped up to maximize yield of specified substrate and print device
- Documents, names files correctly, and rips file (converts to a format that printers can use); ensures colors are handled correctly
- Uses computers and systems (including hardware and software) to set up functions, enter data or process information.
- Follows all TBG protocol and procedures according to company standards.
- Other duties as assigned by management
- Uses excellent interpersonal communication skills and is able to work with a variety of people and personalities to ensure high levels of internal and external customer service
Skills & Abilities:
- File setup expert - assisting customers with print file setup as needed and as it relates to mail addressing areas.
- Quality focused - we strive to produce a brilliant print product every time out.
- Analyzing supplied artwork - skilled at performing preflight checks on supplied print files.
- Troubleshooting - candidates should be adept at quickly identifying and rectifying file setup issues.
- Multi-tasking - managing multiple messages, questions, requests.
- Adobe Creative Suite - candidate is proficient in the use of Adobe products used for premedia setup, particularly InDesign.
- Strong verbal and written communication
- General Printing Industry knowledge
- Attention to detail.
- Knowledge of USPS standards, processes (including PVDS) and processing categories. Ability to talk through these, as well as our internal CASS, NCOA, and Dedupe processes with customers
- Ability to follow and execute complex directions
- Ability to follow and design to a template
- Ability to clean and process a mailing list is a plus
- BCC software knowledge is a plus.
Experience Required:
- High School degree or GED required. Associate degree in graphic arts a plus, or equivalent work experience
- Proficient computer skills, including Adobe Creative Suite (including shortcuts), Pitstop, word, Excel, GMG knowledge a plus
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS NECESSARY TO PERFORM THIS JOB
- Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing. Strong interpersonal skills including demonstrated listening skills and the ability to present ideas and thoughts concisely and effectively both internally and outside the organization.
- Apply manual dexterity and visual acuity for computer keyboarding and office equipment use and to review detailed reports and information
- Move around the plant and office areas repeatedly throughout the day

Shift hours: M-F 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
Starting wage or wage range: $21.00 per hour
