Mercedes-Benz Vans, LLC (“MBV”) is part of the division Mercedes-Benz Vans of Daimler AG, Germany. It is a plant in South Carolina that assembles Sprinter vans for the U.S. market under the brands Mercedes-Benz and Freightliner, with headquarters in Charleston, SC. The midsize Metris van was added to the assembly line in 2015.

 

Mercedes-Benz Vans announced in March 2015 that it will invest $500 million in construction of a new Sprinter production plant, in addition to an expansion of existing assembly operations. The new facility will be also located in Charleston, and will provide up to 1,300 jobs.  

 

More than 130,000 Sprinter have been assembled in Charleston and delivered to destinations in the U.S. since 2006. The U.S. is now the third largest market for Sprinter vans, after Germany and the U.K.

 

 

Responsibilities: 

 

 

  • Identify errors in automated welding systems. Discuss errors and analyze welding logs with the relevant departments: ultrasonic inspection, engineering, and maintenance.
  • Set up, modify, relocate and set parameters of welding programs. Conduct independent welding process optimization     
    • Operate different welding controllers and computer programs for different welding methods
    • Control GMAW and stud welding equipment via PC or PHG
    • Perform continuous visual inspection of the production operation
    • Participate in the continuous improvement and optimization of the robotic welding process (cycle time, wear cycles, milling cycle)
  • Program and adjust spot welding equipment    
    • Organize and procure samples and components for testing and machine adjustment outside of production time
    • Perform test runs
    • Archive production data and retrieve data from the corresponding mass-storage devices   
  • Integrate new welding programs (MIG, MAG, spot, and stud welding) and coach coworkers
  • Maintain regular communication with the Engineering Office.
  • Report the day’s events and all relevant information at shift changeover
  • Assist in the organization of teamwork
  • Participate in the Continuous Improvement Program   

  

 

 

Qualifications:

 

Education ad Experience

  • Associate’s Degree in Robotic Welding, Robotics Technology, Welding Technology, or similar and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience   

-or-

  • Certified Robotic Arc Welder with a minimum of 2 years relevant work experience  

 

Knowledge and Skills

Knowledge of robotics, welding, industrial electronics, metal processing, experience with robotics control systems
