The Planning Department is looking for an intern to work in the mapping section of our Technology team. This is a unique opportunity to work with an in-house IT Department in a creative environment. The IT Mapping Intern will work with Accela, Planning’s chosen Project and Permit Tracking System software, and a number of internal tools created by the Planning Department for internal and public use.
Under the guidance of the Senior GIS Business Analyst, the IT Mapping intern will gain hands-on technical work experience while contributing to strengthening the mapping capabilities for the Department. The intern will be trained to perform the following:
Performs Accela GIS upgrade
Performs user interface redesign for mobile and various screen sizes for Planning Information Map (PIM) and Transportation Information Map (TIM)
Performs upgrade to the San Francisco’s Transportation Demand Management tool upgrade
Creates Python scripts to manage data maintenance in the new geodatabase
Trains to configure Arches preservation system in Amazon AWS, and works with Data Analyst to migrate preservation data into Arches
Reviews and assists with responding to Ad-hoc spatial data analysis requests
Performs upgrade the Plant Finder tool
Performs upgrade Accela-PIM integration to take advantage of Accela’s new multi-tiered security in its cloud database
Performs other related duties as assigned
Possession of an Associate’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
The stated desirable qualifications may be used to identify job finalists at the end of the selection process when candidates are referred for hiring.
Possession of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
Information systems experience, including technical support, content management, administration of network applications or system analysis.
Experience with geographic information systems, including ESRI ArcGIS.
Experience with query and reporting products and languages such as Crystal Reports and Structured Query Language (SQL) and/or similar.
