Housing and Community DevelopmentThis position would work supporting a variety of housing policy and community development and stabilization projects, such as the Racial and Social Equity Initiative, Housing Affordability Strategies, Community Stabilization Strategy, Mission Action Plan 2020, Cultural Districts Program, and other related work. 

The Planner should have strong quantitative and qualitative skills relating to housing and socio-economic analysis and ability to conduct related field work, skills and experience in developing policy relating to housing protection, preservation, and production, community development and stabilization, knowledge of relevant local, State, and Federal housing laws and regulations, and the ability to work closely with a diverse range of community stakeholders, particularly with hard to reach populations.

 

Land UseThis position would work on a variety of land use, development, and community plans and general policy initiatives.  The Planner should have skills and experience in preparing land use plans, comprehensive area plans, development agreements, zoning regulations, or other land use policy strategies for the City.

The candidate should have skills and experience with developing land use policy proposals, understanding, interpreting, and developing planning policy and code language, and working with a range of diverse communities to develop community plans and policies.  Familiarity with general principles of urban design, site planning, and development processes is important, and ability to perform development feasibility proforma analyses is a strong bonus.

 

Urban Design and Sustainability.  This position would work on a variety of plans, policies, and projects relating to urban design and sustainability of the built environment and public spaces. This includes preparing urban design studies and concepts, developing urban form models and designs for streets and public spaces, and providing design review services for development proposals.  The position would also work on the Division’s work program relating to sustainability and climate adaptation, including development of climate policy and strategies relating to climate mitigation, biodiversity, and climate adaptation, including sea level rise.

Graphic design and production skills, including fluency with Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop), three-dimensional digital modeling and rendering skills (Rhino and/or SketchUp), LEED or other sustainability accreditation, and/or degree or background in architecture are strong bonuses.

 

Civic Center Commons Project Manager.  The Civic Center Commons (CCC) Project Manager is the primary project manager for an interagency initiative focused on improving conditions in San Francisco’s Civic Center Plaza, UN Plaza, and Fulton Street.  The Initiative’s work focuses on four strategy areas, as articulated in the 2018-19 Civic Center Commons Initiative Action Plan: create daily attractions; improve cleanliness and stewardship; create a cohesive identity; and build a strong team.  With oversight and guidance from the Initiative Director, the Project Manager is responsible for helping advance and support projects in these four strategy areas.

The Project Coordinator position requires strong collaboration with public and private partner organizations and the ability to advance creative activation projects. Other desirable competency and task areas include: strong knowledge of urban design and long-range planning concepts; strong project management abilities; strong communications skills; graphic design knowledge and abilities; and strong interpersonal relationship and facilitation skills.
