Under general supervision, the Occupational Therapist assesses, plans, and implements appropriate Occupational Therapy habilitative and rehabilitative treatment interventions to patients in acute care and long-term hospitals, senior programs, mental health centers, clinical outpatient centers, home health, public school settings, and other similar institutions.  Essential functions include: evaluation of client needs, treatment planning, implementation of appropriate Occupational Therapy treatments, documenting such treatments per facility and regulatory guidelines, re-assessment of client progress and treatment plan, client discharge planning, and  regular communication with rehabilitation team members, clients, client family members, and other health care or business partners regarding treatment program and services.  Additional duties may include supervising assigned staff, students, and volunteers.  

  • Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center (ZSFG) Rehabilitation Department *

At ZSFG, Occupational Therapists may work in inpatient acute care, SNF, and outpatient patient hand therapy.  OT’s working in the outpatient department will occasionally cross cover on inpatient. In addition to working with the orthopedics/post-surgical population, neurological conditions, an interest and/or experience working with patients will special populations including pediatrics is desired. Clinical mentorship is available.

  • Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center (ZSFG) Department of Psychiatry

At ZSFG in the Department of Psychiatry Occupational Therapists with previous experience working with people who have a mental health diagnosis within the last year or successful completion of a 3-month internship in mental health may apply. OT’s in this division provide group and individual psycho-social interventions for adults on the locked inpatient acute unit, non-acute unit, jail psychiatric unit and psychiatric emergency service.  OT's with experience leading a variety of evidenced based practice recovery groups are encouraged to apply

  • Laguna Honda Hospital and Rehabilitation Center

At Laguna Honda Hospital and Rehabilitation Center, Occupational Therapists who are interested in working in the acute rehabilitation, skilled nursing, and long term care settings should apply.  Occupational Therapists who have experience working with under-served San Francisco individuals, who have neurological impairments such as traumatic and acquired brain injury, spinal cord injury, as well as poly trauma and hand therapy, will be an asset.  Experienced therapists and new graduates are encouraged to apply.

  • Health at Home

At Health At Home, occupational therapists with two (2) years of clinical experience or more should apply. The Health at Home Occupational Therapist provides home therapy and case management to homebound residents of San Francisco, primarily within the San Francisco Health Network. Previous home health experience is not required, but highly desirable. Occupational Therapists who have experience, or a strong desire to work with the underserved San Francisco population, display a high level of self-confidence, and are comfortable working in an autonomous environment are an asset.

  •  California Children's Services (CCS) Medical Therapy Program

At CCS, Occupational Therapists provide services to clients, ranging in age from birth to 21 years, who are eligible for services through the Medical Therapy Program.  Examples of CCS-MTP eligible conditions include: neuromuscular, musculoskeletal, or muscular diseases such as cerebral palsy, juvenile arthritis, muscular dystrophy, amputation, arthrogryposis, and other conditions caused by major sequelae from pediatric stroke, cancer, traumatic injuries, or infectious diseases.   Services are primarily provided in an outpatient clinic setting, but may also be provided in the public school setting or within the home to address equipment needs and caregiver training. Occupational therapists with a minimum of 3 months pediatric experience and who are comfortable working in an autonomous environment are strongly desired.

Minimum Qualifications

License and Certification:

Possession of a valid Occupational Therapy License issued by the California Board of Occupational Therapy (CBOT); OR

Acceptance by the California Board of Occupational Therapy for the next examination of the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy.

Basic Life Support for Professional Rescuer (BLS) Certificate Requirement/Provision:

Possession of a valid Basic Life Support for Professional Rescuer (BLS) Certificate issued by the American Heart Association is required as a provision to employment for all positions. Eligibles who do not possess such a certification may participate in this examination process and be appointed to a position(s), but will be required to obtain the certificate within two (2) weeks of hire date and maintain validity throughout length of employment. A photocopy of the valid Basic Life Support for Professional Rescuer (BLS) Certificate must be provided to the appropriate supervisor of the appointment within the allotted time frame. Failure to demonstrate/show proof of possession of valid certification within two (2) weeks of hire date and throughout length of employment may result in dismissal and/or termination of employment.

Selection Procedures

Minimum Qualification Supplemental Questionnaire (Weight: Qualifying):

Candidates will be prompted to complete a Supplemental Questionnaire as part of the online employment application. This Minimum Qualification Supplemental Questionnaire is designed to obtain specific information regarding an applicant's experience in relation to the Minimum Qualifications for this position. Applicants must also complete the official application. It is essential that applicants provide complete information in identifying their education, experience and training. The Minimum Qualification Supplemental Questionnaire will be used to evaluate if the applicant possesses the required minimum qualifications.

Written Examination (WEIGHT: 100%):

Qualified candidates will be sent a Supplemental Questionnaire to complete which will determine their relative knowledge, ability and skill level in one or more of the following job related areas as appropriate. These areas may include, but not be limited to: Knowledge of disease processes and physical, mental and emotional disabilities; Knowledge and ability to conduct patient/client assessments; Knowledge and ability to develop and implement treatment plans; Knowledge of health and safety standards; Interpersonal skills and abilities; and oral and written communication skills.
