The following information describes the civil service classification for which applications are being solicited.

The purpose of this examination announcement is to establish an eligible list for this classification.

The Electric Motor Repairer performs skilled electrical and mechanical work in the maintenance and repair of a variety of electric motors, generators, appliances, power tools, control auxiliaries and related electrical components. Essential functions of the class include: maintaining and repairing a variety of electrical motors and other electrical devices, equipment and machinery; inspecting, diagnosing and testing, repairing and/or rebuilding of parts and equipment; cleaning parts, tools and equipment; reading schematic drawings and plans; rewinding stators, armatures and coils in AC and DC electric motors, generators and equipment; driving non-revenue vehicles as required; and performing other related duties as assigned.
Nature of work: requires physical effort and dexterity in the use of fingers, limbs and body; work with high voltage equipment; and exposure to dust and chemical fumes. May be required to wear a respirator or other personal protective equipment; and work in inclement weather and/or in conditions where minor injuries may occur.
1. Four (4) years of verifiable experience as a journey-level electric motor repairer, where duties included the electrical and mechanical repair and rewinding of all types of motors, motor-generators, coils, stator and armature windings, and troubleshooting control circuitry and related devices; AND
2. Possession of a class C driver license.
Completion of two (2) full years of a recognized four (4) year apprenticeship program in electric motor winding repair may be substituted for up to one (1) year of the experience as described above.

Appointees to the position will be required to successfully complete the National Safety Council Forklift Truck Operators training course conducted by the SFMTA.

Written Multiple-Choice Examination: (Weight: 100%)
Candidates deemed eligible and admitted to the examination process will be administered a written multiple-choice test designed to measure knowledge, skills and/or abilities in job-related areas which may include but not limited to: knowledge of fundamentals of electricity, materials knowledge, ability to use hand and power tools; ability to read schematics and drawings; and knowledge of safety.
This is a standardized examination and, therefore, test questions and test answers are not available for public inspection or review.

The certification rule for the eligible list resulting from this examination will be Rule of Three Scores. Additional selection processes may be conducted by the hiring department prior to making final hiring decisions.
The duration of the eligible list resulting from this examination will be twelve (12) months. The eligible list resulting from this examination is subject to change after adoption (e.g., as a result of appeals), as directed by the Director of Human Resources and/or Civil Service Commission.
