0932 DNA Technical Lead Manager

The department operates 10 district stations, a crime lab and a training academy.
The 0932 DNA Technical Lead Manager, under general supervision, assist the Crime Lab Manager in overseeing the technical aspects of the Laboratory’s Forensic Biology and DNA Analysis programs, with the specific objective of ensuring that those programs maintain compliance with accreditation requirements and statutorily imposed quality assurance standards.
The 0932 DNA Technical Lead Manager provides direct supervision to all 8262 DNA Criminalist III and other laboratory personnel. The 0932 DNA Technical Lead Manager will administer the operations of the Laboratory’s Forensic Biology and DNA Analysis programs to include scheduling, assigning and evaluating personnel and the work of all 8262 DNA Criminalist III. This position is distinguished from the 8262 DNA Criminalist III position in that the primary responsibility of the 0932 DNA Technical Lead Manager is supervision of the DNA Unit within the Criminalistics Laboratory. The 0932 DNA Technical Lead Manager will perform technical laboratory analysis of physical evidence of crime; testify in court as an expert witness; and do related work as required. This position handles sensitive issues related to public safety and law enforcement with a high consequence of error. This position will report to the Crime Laboratory Manager.
1. A graduate degree from an accredited college or university in biology, chemistry, or forensic science related area. Course work must include a minimum of 12 semester/credit hours or its equivalent including undergraduate and graduate course work covering the subject areas of biochemistry, genetics, molecular biology, and statistics or population genetics; AND
2. (8) Eight years of crime laboratory experience in criminalistics casework at an accredited lab, three (3) years of which must include forensic DNA experience as a qualified analyst on forensic DNA/biological samples (comparable to the City's 8260 Criminalist II), AND at least three (3) years of which must include experience supervising professionals (comparable to a 8262 Criminalist III); AND
3. Possession of a valid Driver License.
Note: The Technical Lead Manager shall have previously completed or successfully complete the FBI-sponsored auditor training within one year of appointment.

This is a standardized examination and, therefore, test questions and answers are not available for public inspection or review.
Scores attained on the Management Test Battery will be valid and 'banked' for three years, starting from the date of the examination. This means that, during this three-year time period, you will not be required to take the Management Test Battery. The Management Test Battery may be used for many other classes; therefore your test score may be applied to one or more of these classes if you choose to apply to future recruitments. If the selection process for the future announcement is held within one year of the date of this examination and it includes the Management Test Battery, your score will be automatically applied to that announcement. However, after one year, you have the option to either (a) apply your test score to the other announcement or (b) re-take the Management Test Battery. Prior to employment with the San Francisco Police Department, a thorough background investigation will be conducted to determine the candidate’s suitability for employment. The investigation may include, but not be limited to: criminal history records, driving records, drug/alcohol screening, and other related employment and personal history records. A confidential eligible list of applicant names that have passed the civil service examination process will be created, and used for certification purposes only.
