Temporary Exempt (TEX), this position is excluded by the Charter from the competitive Civil Service examination process and shall serve at the discretion of the Appointing Officer.
Under general direction of the ITT DevOps Manager, this position is responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, troubleshooting and enhancing front-end applications, backend services and integrating web services with APIs to support a large and complex technology service delivery landscape. Working with the IT Management team to turn user requirements into customized features and provides expert experience and opinion allowing for the addition of new features to meet current and future requirements for both internal and commercial applications. The Software Engineer will gather and evaluate business solution requirements, create application proto-types and mock-ups based on those requirements; perform Agile software development and helping to facilitate cross-functional development teams, using adaptive, interaction; and continuous application life-cycle improvement as well as the design and testing of APIs.
Additionally, this position will participate in all aspects of the systems development cycle, including needs analysis, cost-benefit analysis, systems analysis and design, feasibility analysis, technology and software assessment, solution needs analysis, project planning, system installation, implementation and testing, transitioning work products into production, technical and procedural documentation, user training, and post-implementation assessment.
The essential functions of this position include:
Leads development of APIs and services from technical requirements based on analysis of internal and external data sources and APIs and qualifies business value and ROI for APIs.
Interprets and integrates data from diverse internal and external sources and systems using libraries and APIs.
Leads the development of data ingestion programs to support SFO Data Lake/Hub software and other technical solutions based on functional
Leads the development of software services with a full end to end perspective that covers front end, middleware and backend capabilities.
Leads the development of mobile software solutions and other technical solutions.
Performs documenting and mapping of detailed processes/systems while working with process owners and subject matter experts within teams, identifying cross functional linkages and dependencies and document integrated processes to defined standards.
Engages in the change management process during software development lifecycle to ensure transition from development to production environments meet standard processes and procedures.
Ensures that all work products are high in quality and free of errors and performance issues when deployed. Provide evidence of successful and relevant test results at each phase of development such as unit tests, user acceptance tests, load tests etc.
Ensures that work products and artifacts generated from tasks and project activities align with business, functional, technical and usability requirements.
Works well with business owners and stakeholders to ensure successful communication, documentation and delivery of work products to meet business needs.
Ensures all work products, tasks and project related activities use patterns, blueprints, standards and processes from the Enterprise Architecture Framework.
Ensures that all tasks and project related activities produce artifacts that are in alignment and use components defined in the standard Tool Chain for Application Development.
Ensures that the DEVOPS process is followed when transitioning work products and artifacts between environments into production.
Works with operations team to ensure that services meet run time SLA requirements at all times.
Consistently works to resolve production issues expediently to keep high quality of service metrics.
Learns services and integration with AWS
An associate degree in computer science or a closely related field from an accredited college or university OR its equivalent in terms of total course credits/units [i.e., at least sixty (60) semester or ninety (90) quarter credits/units with a minimum of twenty (20) semester or thirty (30) quarter credits/units in computer science or a closely-related field].
Three (3) years of experience analyzing, installing, configuring, enhancing, and/or maintaining the components of an enterprise network.
Education substitution: Additional experience as described above may be substituted for the required degree on a year-for-year basis (up to a maximum of two (2) years). One (1) year is equivalent to thirty (30) semester units/forty-five (45) quarter units with a minimum of 10 semester/15 quarter units in computer science or a closely related field.
The stated desirable qualifications may be used to identify job finalists at the end of the selection process when candidates are referred to hiring.
- Experience in data modeling and application development using SQL and NoSQL databases
- Experience with RESTful APIs, API proxy, and API management
- Experience with bug tracking tools, version control tools, build automation tools
- Microservice development and operation experience with Containers (Docker) in Hybrid environment
- Knowledge of ground transportation and parking operations systems
- Experience in supporting airport operations functions and systems

One year full-time employment is equivalent to 2,000 hours (2,000 hours of qualifying work experience is based on a 40 hour work week). Any overtime hours that you work above 40 hours per week are not included in the calculation to determine full-time employment.

Candidates for employment with the San Francisco Airport Commission are required to undergo a criminal history record check, including FBI fingerprints, and Security Threat Assessment in order to determine eligibility for security clearance and may be required to undergo drug/alcohol screening.
