ABOUT DEPARTMENT: The Department of Technology is the centralized technology services provider within San Francisco City & County government, delivering technology infrastructure and services to approximately 28,000 employees and 800,000 citizens. The department has an annual operating budget of over $97M and contains over 220 employees. Core service areas include: Technology Architecture & Cybersecurity, Technology Service Delivery & Management, Client Services & Project Management Office, Public Safety Systems & Wiring, Technology Administration, Policy & Governance, and Public Communications.
Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery (BCDR) Team is part of Cybersecurity division located in the Department of Technology (DT), is committed to prepare for disasters and any variety of incidents which may adversely impact the DT’s business operations. A critical element of our preparedness is the resilience of our IT systems, through proper prevention and protection of these systems and their environments, and the capability to quickly recover them when applications, systems, or infrastructure environments fail during and after a disaster.
ABOUT THE POSITION:
We are seeking a high caliber Business Continuity Specialist to join and report to BCDR Program Manger that can provide active support to BCDR program by development and maintenance of IT Continuity of Operators Plan/ Disaster Recovery Plan and ongoing DR testing and monitoring of compliance with DT owned, managed and supported IT Systems. Plan and coordinate on Emergency Management operations for the department to ensure business functions and processes recover in the event of a business disruption.
Under the direction of Business Continuity/Disaster Recovery (BC/DR) Program Manager you will
§ Perform all necessary tasks that support the department- Business Continuity/ Disaster Recovery and Emergency/Crisis Management operations
§ Assist and support the creation/maintenance of Business Continuity documents (e.g. Business Impact Analysis, Risk Assessments, Business Continuity Plans including disaster recovery plan, test scripts, test summaries) that meet the City's Disaster Policy, standards and requirement
§ Establishes crisis recovery testing methodologies; plans and coordinates the testing of recovery support and business resumption procedures in different functional areas to ensure the recovery procedures are effective.
§ Drive progress of testing of critical applications and report on it regularly
§ Responsible for assisting with the overall disaster preparedness of the organization
§ Assist in planning and coordinating various Business/Disaster Recovery test/exercise
§ Must develop and/or update documentation in a timely fashion to address unforeseen events
§ Assist with writing and/or updating Business Recovery Plans
§ Participate and document the requirements in meetings with Internal Customers
§ Ability to be on call for off-hours to support disaster and resumptions efforts during and after a disruption event
§ Ensure capable coverage 24 X 7 to support the emergency operations center/department operation center in the event of a Real Emergency
§ Proven ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner across all levels of an organization, and clearly articulate security and business continuity concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders
JOB TYPE: This Temporary-Exempt Full Time position is excluded by the Charter from the competitive civil service examination process and shall serve at the discretion of the appointing officer. This position has an anticipated duration of no more than three (3) years and will not result in an eligible list or permanent civil service hiring.
WORK LOCATION: Incumbent will conduct the majority of work at the Department of Technology, 1 South Van Ness Avenue, San Francisco CA 94103. However, there may be situations where the incumbent will be required to work at other sites throughout the City of San Francisco, Rancho Cordova and other DR Sites as necessary.
NATURE OF WORK: Candidate must be willing to work a 40-hour week as determined by the department. Travel within San Francisco and other DR Sites may be required.
