2575 RESEARCH PSYCHOLOGIST
DIRECTOR OF PRACTICE IMPROVEMENT

APPOINTMENT TYPE: Temporary Exempt. In accordance with San Francisco Charter Section 10.104, exempt employees serve at the pleasure of the appointing authority. NOTE: Although we are currently recruiting for a full-time position, this applicant pool may also be used for other as needed, part-time, or full-time vacancies within the Department of Public Health.
Under general direction of the 0922 Manager I – Assistant Director, Children Youth, and Families System of Care (CYFSOC), the 2575 Research Psychologist - Director of Practice Improvement plans and coordinates a Practice Improvement and Research/Evaluation Program focused on identifying best practices (evidence-based/informed, culturally relevant practice-based evidence) for the CYFSOC; utilizes implementation science to design implementation plans to deploy practices in a feasible and sustainable way; conducts outcome evaluations of the efforts; develops reports for the CYFSOC and other system partners on these efforts; and serves as a staff consultant on research methodology related to Children, Youth, and Families and Population Health Programs (e.g. Hope SF Wellness Centers).
LOCATION: 1380 Howard, 5th Floor, San Francisco, CA 94103.
SHIFT/DAYS OFF: Monday through Friday (full-time, 40 hours/week)/8:30 am – 5:30 pm. Some early mornings and early evenings are required.
The 2575 Research Psychologist - Director of Practice Improvement will lead the CYFSOC’s overall practice improvement and research/evaluation efforts and performs the following essential job functions:
- Designs and conducts psychological research with to enhance clinical implementation and effectiveness of CYFSOC programs and workforce development efforts;
- Supports staff/interns conducting research projects for CYFSOC;
- Directs and assists in the preparation, maintenance, and publication of current research regarding programs;
- Serves as a consultant on experimental and research methodology to other CYFSOC research staff;
- Utilizes implementation science and draws on knowledge of clinical programs to design and support practice improvement efforts deployed in system;
- Draws on implementation science to support development of services/programs and evaluation of services/programs within Hope SF Wellness Centers & Juvenile Justice Behavioral Health;
- Provides consultation to Child Welfare, Juvenile Probation, School District, and other system partners on best practices and systems coordination for high risk, multi-system children, youth, and families, including evaluation efforts related to the Shared Youth Database (a cross system/city department initiative);
- Works with Quality Management (QM) to utilize CANS/outcome data to inform Practice Improvement efforts and Compliance Requirements (e.g., performance objective; PURQC); in addition to other Practice Improvement and Quality Improvement (PIQI) efforts; utilizes other data from QM (e.g., service utilization, penetration rates, demographics info) to better understand who CYFSOC serves and conduct gap analysis on where services are needed within the County (health disparities); provides data on access, engagement, appropriateness, and effectiveness of services within CYFSOC;
- Helps develop surveys and maintains a directory of current clinical intervention practices and identifies and recommends strategies to address gaps in both services and the workforce delivering the services;
- Coordinates ongoing dialogue with children, youth, and families with lived experience, other community stakeholders, and program leaders to plan, develop, implement, and sustain effective programs in community settings and use their input to develop evaluation structures;
- Assists in identifying grant opportunities, coordinating applications and overseeing implementation, as needed; and
- Develops and maintains “Best Practice Tip Sheets” for CYFSOC and communicates ongoing Practice Improvement and Evaluation activities through the development and distribution of a CYFSOC newsletter.
The 2575 Research Psychologist - Director of Practice Improvement performs other related duties as required/assigned.
- Possession of a Ph.D. degree in psychology from an accredited university or college, with graduate courses in research methods and advanced statistics; AND
- Two (2) years (equivalent to 4,000 hours), within the last five (5) years, of full-time post-doctorate experience designing and/or leading research projects in psychology or other social sciences.

- Active and current registered licensing in the following: Clinical Psychologist
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point
- Demonstration of progressive leadership experience in a professional setting
- Experience as a child, youth, and family clinician in a public health setting
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to allow for effective communication with a diverse audience
- Ability to create and maintain positive, productive working relationships with diverse and multidisciplinary staff
- Detail oriented and strong organizational skills
- Experience with electronic health records/database use and development; experience with county/state systems
- Ability to present technical data to individuals at all levels of the agency in a manner that makes the information accessible, actionable and meaningful for decision-making and program improvement
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a team, manage multiple projects simultaneously, track details and big picture
- Project management experience, including setting project development and implementation milestones, identifying problems, and generating solutions
- Strong foundation in program evaluation/outcomes research in community settings
- Ability to reliably and consistently deliver quality work products on target dates

Facial hair or any condition that interferes with a face-fitting respirator’s seal (i.e. comes between the sealing surfaces of the respirator and the wearer’s bare skin) is not permitted when face-fitting respirators are worn, including during initial or periodic respirator fit-testing.
