Project Name: Intervening Electric Distribution Project

Project Description: The objective of the Intervening Electric Distribution Project is to complete a total of 120 intervening electric distribution work orders at various municipal locations throughout the City and County of San Francisco. The 7350 Transmission and Distribution Line Workers will work on various Intervening Facilities projects and perform the following work:  restoring existing underground secondary service; providing secondary service with low side metering configuration; inspecting metering equipment and installing new meters; inspecting substructures and installing primary cables; and inspecting primary substructures and cables. During this project, the 7350s Transmission and Distribution Line Workers are expected to complete 40 work orders per year for the next three years (36 months). This project is expected to run through March 2022.

Position Description:

Under general supervision, the 7350 Transmission and Distribution Line Worker leads and performs journey level skilled line work in the installation, construction, maintenance and repair of high voltage overhead transmission and underground distribution lines, as well as rigging blocks, splicing wires and operating hydraulic lift buckets, and other related duties as required. This position will perform emergency response to power outages and damaged equipment as well as perform street light O&M and emergency repair.

Essential Functions:

  • Installs, repairs, and maintains high tension overhead transmission systems, related feeder lines, towers and poles; performs such maintenance activities when lines are energized as well as de-energized.
  • Maintains, operates, and adjusts electrical transmission and primary power substations ranging from 600 to 230,000 voltage, including circuit breakers, relays, batteries, and controls.
  • Installs and maintains underground and overhead power lines and feeders and related auxiliary equipment; locates and isolates faulty sections and removes, installs and makes corrections where necessary.
  • Installs watt-hour meter systems, connects potential transformers, current transformers, phase shifting transformers, test switches, reactive meters, demand meters, and watt hour meters. 
  • Maintains, operates, and repairs high voltage street light system.
  • Installs, repairs, and maintains high tension overhead transmission systems, related feeder lines, towers and poles; performs maintenance activities when lines are energized as well as de-energized.
  • Installs and maintains street lighting systems including circuits, poles, arms, and luminaries. 
  • Tests, inspects, repairs, and replaces overhead and underground transmission and distribution lines and circuits.
  • Maintains utility power generation and transmission systems, and related components, including circuit breakers, relays, switches, and fuses, transformers, busses, and underground cables, feeders, and associated equipment.
  • Class 7350 Transmission and Distribution Line Worker performs other related duties as required.

Nature of Work: Involves considerable physical effort and dexterity with frequent exposure to inclement weather and natural elements and working conditions where serious accidents or injuries may occur.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Possession of a current valid Class B driver’s license; AND
  2. Two years of verifiable work experience as a journey-level line worker, working with pole and tower transmission systems ranging from 600 to 230,000 volts, with responsibility for construction, installation, maintenance and repair of overhead and underground lines; OR
  3. Completion of a State certified electrical line apprenticeship program

Experience claimed in self-employment will only be accepted if supported by documents verifying income, earnings, business license and experience comparable to minimum qualifications above. Copies of income tax papers or other documents listing occupation and total earnings must be submitted.     

Verification of required valid licensure/certification typically must be a photocopy of the license/certificate including the name of the issuing agency as well as the name of the license/certificate holder, license/certificate number, and expiration date.

Selection Procedures

Minimum Qualifications Supplemental Questionnaire (MQSQ - Qualifying)

Conviction History
