Under supervision, provides supervision of a County parking facility to ensure protection of vehicles and parking services for authorized vehicles; and does related or other work as required in accordance with Rule 3, Section 3 of the Civil Service Rules.
CLASS CHARACTERISTICS
This is a one-position class in the Facilities Management Division. The incumbent is assigned duties that include the supervision of public parking and facility maintenance. This class differs from that of Garage Attendant in that an incumbent of the latter class is responsible for routine vehicle servicing.
TYPICAL DUTIES
Monitors the parking of vehicles in a designated parking facility to protect cars from vandalism or theft, and ensures appropriate parking of authorized vehicles.
Opens and closes garage; operates alarm system; documents openings, closings and unusual events and ensures accessibility of parking facility during operation hours.
Performs cleaning tasks that include picking up litter, sweeping, and use of blower to clean parking surfaces; cleans and maintains restrooms and office facilities.
Provides direction and information to the public on available parking facilities.
Records and maintains a log of events that transpire during each shift.
Conducts an occasional census of vehicles parked in the parking facility.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Special Requirement: May require shift work or extended work hours.
KNOWLEDGE
Basic public relations and communication techniques, basic cleaning methods, materials, equipment, and their use; basic reading and writing; basic arithmetic; and basic safety techniques and procedures.
ABILITY
Follow oral and written instructions; maintain routine records; distinguish between authorized and unauthorized county staff; use tact and courtesy with users of motor pool vehicles; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
