Under general supervision, works well with school district personnel in scheduling program activities; provides input and assistance with the development or program protocols, standards, and materials; assists with program evaluation; and performs related or other work as required in accordance with Rule 3, Section 3 of the Civil Service Rules.
CLASS CHARACTERISTICS
This class is the second level class in the Dental Assistant class series. Incumbents are expected to provide the more difficult and comprehensive assistance with school district program activities and for providing training for the Dental Assistant I and school site coordinators.
TYPICAL DUTIES
Conducts classroom presentations on dental health, nutrition, and oral hygiene.
Promotes dental disease prevention through education and skill development.
Plans and schedules school participation and classroom visits.
Assists the Dental Consultant with the development of workshop formats, classroom presentations, and program evaluation material.
Schedules, implements, and evaluates in-service workshops.
Monitors implementation or program components at each school site as outlined in developed models; prepares and submits quarterly reports on program activities.
Provides training for the Dental Aide I and school site coordinators.
Attends the annual conference on dental health programs presented by the State Department of Health.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EITHER PATTERN I
Experience: One year of work experience in a clinical or community health care setting providing dental education and counseling to individuals or groups in the community.
OR PATTERN II
Experience: One year of work experience comparable to that of a Dental Aide I with the San Joaquin County Public Health Agency.
KNOWLEDGE
Methods and principles of dental hygiene, including dental histology, anatomy, physiology, and microbiology; methods for communicating with and teaching young people; components and procedures of the school district dental hygiene and disease prevention programs.
ABILITY
Assist with the development and implementation of the school district dental hygiene and disease prevention programs; schedule and implement program components; provide training for others; work with and provide instruction to young people; maintain information and prepare program reports; tactfully and courteously represent the San Joaquin County Public Health Agency in contacts with others; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
