Under general direction, supervises, assigns, and coordinates administrative and technical work of a group of staff in the Diagnostic Imaging Division of San Joaquin General Hospital; participates in the more complex technical procedures; and does related or other work as required in accordance with Rule 3, Section 3 of Civil Service Rules.
CLASS CHARACTERISTICS
This is the supervisory level in the Radiologic Technologist class series. An incumbent is responsible for directing and supervising the work of an assigned group of technical staff and may assist with division operations in the manager’s absence.
TYPICAL DUTIES
Supervises, assigns, coordinates, and evaluates the work of technical and clerical staff; ensures proper performance and compliance with all radiologic federal and state regulatory requirements, Joint Commission, and hospital standards.
Conducts and/or coordinates in-service training and staff development; demonstrates and performs the most complex radiological techniques to technicians and students; monitors and ensures procedures are performed according to standards and regulations.
May perform all modalities of radiologic imaging; prepares and positions patients for diagnostic examinations including fluoroscopic x-ray, angiography, CT scanning, cardiac catheterization and mammography; operates a variety of special equipment relevant to the performance of the position; assists technologists in the performance of their duties when necessary.
Maintains order and cleanliness in work areas; secures supplies.
Confers with manager on administrative, budgetary, management, personnel, and purchasing issues; may assist with the preparation and revision of budgets; prepares records, reports and correspondence.
Recommends and implements division policy and procedures; reviews, interprets and applies state, federal and Joint Commission regulations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EITHER PATTERN I
Experience: Three years as a Radiologic Technologist II or one year as a Radiologic Technologist III in San Joaquin County service.
OR PATTERN II
Experience: Four years performing diagnostic radiographs in a clinic or hospital, one year of which was in a lead or supervisory capacity.
AND
Licenses and Certificates: Possession of a valid license as a Radiologic Technologist and a valid fluoroscopy license issued by the State of California Department of Public Health. Registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) is desirable.
NOTE: Generally, persons who are registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) may obtain certification as a Radiologic Technologist in the State of California upon application and payment of fees to the Department of Public Health.
KNOWLEDGE
Principles and practices of supervision and training; methods and techniques used in complex and specialized diagnostic radiographic and fluoroscopic examinations; variations of anatomical positioning used in radiography; safety practices; methods and techniques of organizing work effectively; policies, procedures and regulations related to safe practices of diagnostic imaging; personal computer systems and general office computer software.

Supervise, train and evaluate staff; plan and organize work; operate a variety of technical equipment; assist and position patients for a variety of imaging examinations; perform a variety of specialized procedures; prepare reports and correspondence; operate computers and other standard office equipment; read, understand, interpret and apply rules and regulations; read and understand technical medical materials and instructions; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and patients.
