DEFINITION

Under general direction, manages the Day Treatment Program of Mental Health Outpatient Services.

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS

This is a single position class. The incumbent develops and expands client programs; administers the overall program and supervises staff assigned to the center.

TYPICAL DUTIES

  • Assigns and monitors the work of therapists who lead support groups and counsel with clients. Provides clinical training and direction for therapists assigned to the unit.
  • Completes intake evaluations, utilization reviews and client episode summaries and develops goals and treatment plans to provide complete client charts and to comply with Medi-Cal and state licensing requirements.
  • Approves day treatment program admissions, transfers and discharges.
  • Reviews programs; authorizes modifications to existing programs; develops proposals for new programs; implements and manages new programs.
  • Ensures clients and community safety handles are security and legal issues. Responsible for resolution of all crisis situations.
  • May request an evaluation for client admission into the acute, locked psychiatric facility. May arrange for client placement in other programs.
  • Prepares and presents day treatment budget to health care administration for fiscal year.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in psychology, social work, business management or related field.

Experience: Four years of increasingly responsible experience in a mental health treatment setting including one year of supervision or program management experience. One year of experience as an LCSW may be substituted for the year of supervisory experience.

KNOWLEDGE

Causes, symptoms and treatment of mental illnesses; pharmacology of anti-depressants, tranquilizers, and other drugs used in the treatment and management of mental illness; supervision skills; training methods.

ABILITY

Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; organize workload effectively; supervise and train others; recognize and respond to changing clinical symptoms.
