Under immediate supervision, performs entry-level professional duties in the programming, testing, implementation and maintenance of applications across multiple platforms and technologies within an assigned department; troubleshoots and resolves basic application problems; provides technical support and training to end users; and performs other related work in accordance with Rule 3, Section 3 of the Civil Service Rules.
CLASS CHARACTERISTICS
This is the entry-level class in the Department Applications Analyst series. Incumbents perform work of a professional rather than technical nature, utilizing skills that require an understanding of analytical procedures and processes. This class is distinguished from the Department Applications Analyst II by the performance of the more routine tasks and duties assigned to positions within the series, including basic programming support for less complex applications. Since this class is typically used as a training class, employees may have only limited or no directly related work experience.
TYPICAL DUTIES
Provides professional entry-level support in the programming, testing, implementation and maintenance of applications across multiple platforms and technologies.
Participates in the evaluation and testing of new or enhanced applications; installs or upgrades application software and hardware on personal computers; troubleshoots routine hardware and software related problems.
Learns to maintain and support existing applications; responds to routine client calls and requests for minor application programming modifications; learns to code, test and de-bug program modifications.
Learns to write and develop application documentation, and instructional or procedural manuals.
Learns to create various reports, charts and other materials from multiple layers of data.
Attends and participates in professional group meetings; stays abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of information technology.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Note: Incumbents who, at the time that Classification Study #01-22 is adopted by the Board of Supervisors, occupy full-time Civil Service positions reclassified to this class by the study, shall be deemed to meet the requirements listed below.
Education: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in computer science, information systems, mathematics, business administration or a related field.
Substitution #1: Possession of an approved information systems technology certificate, or completion of an approved information systems training course may substitute for part or all of the required education. A list of approved certificates and/or courses shall be maintained within the Human Resources Department.
Substitution #2: Two years performing information systems support work at a level comparable to or higher than the San Joaquin County class of Department Information Systems Specialist II may substitute for two years of the above-required education.
Substitution #3: One year performing information systems support work at a level comparable to or higher than the San Joaquin County class of Department Information Systems Specialist III may substitute for two years of the above-required education.
KNOWLEDGE
