Under general supervision, examines, records and files legal documents and collects recording fees for the Recorder's Office; and does related or other work as required in accordance with Rule 3, Section 3 of the Civil Service Rules.
CLASS CHARACTERISTICS
An employee in this class is responsible for reviewing real property and other legal documents to determine acceptability for recording and for setting and collecting recording fees.
TYPICAL DUTIES
Receives and records liens, deeds, maps, and other real property documents for filing and recording purposes.
Reviews documents submitted for filing or recording purposes to assure accuracy, completeness and conformance with laws, rules and regulations.
Conducts searches of property records.
Determines and collects fees.
Assists the public in searching records.
Maintains simple accounting records.
Receives orders by phone or in person for certified and uncertified copies of filled or recorded documents.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience: Two years of journey level clerical experience, one year of which included the preparation and filing of real property documents.
KNOWLEDGE
State and County laws governing recording of documents; laws pertaining to ownership and transfer of real personal property; legal descriptions of real property; methods and documents used to convey and transfer title to real property; general office practices.
ABILITY
Work rapidly and accurately under pressure; follow oral and written instructions; apply laws, rules and written directions to specific situations; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
