Under direction, performs program development duties in the County's Community Centers the Aging and Community Services Division of the Human Services Agency; and does related other work as required in accordance with Rule 3, Section 3 of the Civil Service Rules.
CLASS CHARACTERISTICS
An employee in this single position class is responsible for creating, implementing, and coordinating recreation and education programs and activities for youth, adults, and seniors in the various County Community Centers.
TYPICAL DUTIES
Plans, develops, implements, and supervises a variety of year-round recreation programs and activities for youth, adults and seniors; and conducts needs assessments as needed.
Collaborates and coordinates recreation activities with other community-based organizations, such as cities within the county, YMCA, Boys and Girls Club, and local schools.
Secures facilities, equipment, supplies, and transportation for recreation programs.
Organizes leagues for basketball, flag football, softball, soccer, volleyball, swimming, jogging/walking, dancing, exercise and other types of recreation.
Recruits recreation participants and volunteer officials for recreation activities; provides education and enforcement of adopted rules of play for recreation activities.
Acts as liaison between the Aging and Community Services Division and the general public regarding the community recreation and education programs.
Maintains program records and reports; analyzes program services in relations to community needs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
License: Possession of a valid California Class C Driver's license.
Education: Graduation from an accredited four year college or university.
OR
Experience: Four years of progressively responsible experience in a recreation or social service delivery program.
Substitution: Education may be substituted for the required general qualifying experience on a year for year basis up to four years.
KNOWLEDGE
Principles or recreation management and leadership; rules and equipment used in recreation programs and activities; safety practices and procedures; basic first aid; public relations techniques; record keeping; language mechanics and report writing; community resources; principles of human behavior.
