This is a temporary/part-time class in the Facilities Management Department, Division of Parks and Recreation. Under immediate supervision, an incumbent performs basic fee collection and visitor service functions for park facilities; and does related or other work as required.
CLASS CHARACTERISTICS
Employees in this class collect and account for park use fees, provide initial greeting to park visitors, and give information and directions.
TYPICAL DUTIES
Conducts entrance station sales including collection of parking, pet, zoo admission, fishing, boating, and camping fees.
Provides information and directions to public; answers visitor questions.
Maintains daily records of visitor use; maintains and records cash sales; fills out incident and accident reports as needed.
Maintains entrance station kiosk with all supplies and equipment required; may perform basic housekeeping duties as required.
May operate paddle-boat rental facilities and perform related activities; may operate motor boats; may assist customers in boarding and exiting boats and fitting safety equipment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
License: Possession of a valid California Driver’s License.
Experience: Six months of paid experience in handling cash and making change.
KNOWLEDGE
Basic fee collection and accounting practices; basic mathematics and record keeping; basic principles and practices of public relations; basic principles and practices of inventory control.
ABILITY
Understand and follow oral and written directions; deal effectively with the public; count money and make change accurately; maintain records; work independently; operate a calculator and a two-way radio; read and interpret park rules and regulations; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Mobility-Frequent walking, standing, bending/squatting and pushing pulling; occasional driving, sitting or standing for long periods; Lifting-Some assignments may require ability to occasionally lift up to 70 pounds; Vision-Frequent eye-hand coordination and good overall vision; occasional reading and close-up work, color/depth perception and peripheral vision; Dexterity-Frequent reaching, holding and gripping; occasional writing, repetitive motion; Hearing/Talking-Constant hearing normal speech and talking in person; occasional talking on the telephone and/or radio; Emotional/Special Conditions-Constant public contact, decision making and concentration; frequent exposure to outdoor conditions and working weekends and/or irregular hours; occasional overtime.
