Introduction

San Joaquin County Correctional Health Services is seeking a California licensed Dentist. 

Location:         7000 Michael N. Canlis Blvd., French Camp, 95231 

The department is located within the San Joaquin County jail, and is responsible for providing medical, dental, and mental health care services to the incarcerated adult population.  To be employed in the County jail facility, applicants must successfully pass and maintain a security clearance which is a condition of employment.  

The dentist will be providing basic primary dental care and services to juveniles from the Juvenile Justice Center and adult inmate patients that include dental screenings, dental education & disease prevention, pain control and infections, oral surgery, root canal opening, impactions and extractions, periodontal drainage, subgingival curettage & scaling, root planing, amalgam fillings & composite fillings, dental prophylaxis, SS crowns, home care instructions, nutrition & health diets – sugar control and brushing.


TYPICAL DUTIES

  • Provide basic primary dental care and services to patients of San Joaquin County Correctional Health Care, as deemed appropriate, in conjunction with policies and procedures, rules and regulations that are and may be established by the county, the medical staff of Correctional Health Care (CHC), and Title 15 Standards.
  • Assist in the supervision of staff assigned to the Dental Clinic of Correctional Health Care, specifically including, but not limited to, dental assistants. 
  • Provide, as necessary, assistance and supervision of the dental clinic programs as may exist or may be established by the County. 
  • Maintain professional/medical staff membership in keeping with the professional/medical staff bylaws, rules and regulations, including participation in appropriate professional/medical staff and CHC committees.
  • Provide reports concerning clinic activities, as requested by the Deputy Director or Medical Director.
  • Assist in the quality improvement efforts of the clinics and programs as directed by administrative and medical staff. Participation in any organized contract group or levels of business as determined by department.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Selection Procedures

Applicants for part-time and temporary recruitments who meet the minimum qualifications are either referred to the hiring department for further selection or they may be required to take a written examination.  If a written examination is given, the top candidates may be referred to the hiring department for further selection.

Physical Exam:  Some classifications require physical examinations.  Final appointment cannot be made until the eligible has passed the physical examination.  The County pays for physical examinations administered in its medical facilities.

Pre-employment Drug Screening Exam:  Some classifications require a new employee successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen as a condition of employment.  Final appointment cannot be made until the eligible has passed the drug screen.  The County pays for the initial drug screen.

 

Employment of Relatives: Applicants who are relatives of employees in a department within the 3rd degree of relationship, (parent, child, grandparent, grandchild or sibling) either by blood or marriage, may not be appointed, promoted, transferred into or within the department when:

  • They are related to the Appointing Authority, or

  • The employment would result in one of them supervising the work of the other

Department Heads may establish additional limitations on the hiring of relatives by departmental rule.
