The Position

Under direction, assists in administrative functions of a department or division; assists with functions including, but not limited to, monitoring the budget, accounting, purchasing, processing payroll, data processing, handling complaints, and providing guidance to clerical personnel; performs related work as required. Performs a variety of secretarial and administrative duties including the responsibility for a significant segment of departmental business affairs, program administration and/or the coordination of departmental clerical/secretarial services.  Work is routine to advanced wherein incumbents exercise independent judgment and initiative.

 

The eligible list created as a result of this recruitment will be used to fill full-time and part-time regular, limited-term or extra-help positions as vacancies occur throughout the County. 

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or GED; supplemented by three (3) years of full-time work experience in general office administration that demonstrates possession of and competency in the requisite knowledge and abilities.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Applicants are required to demonstrate intermediate Word processing skills (showing proficiency at 70% or higher) by the final filing date. See Document Submittal Requirements for more information.

BENEFITS

Solano County offers a cafeteria-style medical package with health benefits, offered through CalPERS. The County contribution for family coverage for the 2018 calendar year is $1,520.73 per month. The County offers a cash back provision for those who choose employee-only or who waive medical insurance coverage. The County may offer a supplemental contribution for employees enrolled in Employee plus Two or More coverage.   Dental and vision insurances for the employee and eligible dependents are paid 100% by the County.     

Solano County participates in CalPERS retirement and contributes to Social Security.    

The County observes 12 fixed, paid holidays per year.      

Vacation is accrued at approximately 10 days per year for the first 3 years.  

Sick leave accrues at approximately 12 days per year.  

Employees are eligible to receive an additional 2.5% longevity pay, per level, after the completion of continuous service at 10, 20, 25, 30 and 35 years.

Extra-help employees who work less than 29 hours per week do not typically receive or accrue benefits of regular employees during their period of employment. All extra-help employees accrue .034 hours of Paid Time Off for every full hour worked.

Selection Process

00/00/2018 - Date of Solano County provided typing and Word processing testing by appointment only.

00/00/2018 - Deadline to submit application and any required documentation.

00/00/2018 - Tentative date for written exam.

Based on the information provided in the application documents, the qualified applicants may be invited for further examination and will either be pre-scheduled by the Department of Human Resources or be invited to self-schedule. All applicants meeting the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed advancement through any subsequent phase of the examination. Depending upon the number of applications received, the selection process may consist of an initial application screening, a mandatory information meeting, a supplemental questionnaire assessment, a written and/or practical exam, an oral board exam, or any combination listed. Responses to supplemental questions may be used as screening and testing mechanisms and will be used to assess an applicant’s ability to advance in the process; as such, responses to supplemental questions should be treated as test examination responses. A minimum scores of 70% is required to continue in the selection process.

Document Submittal Requirements

An intermediate Word certificate and typing certificate are required for this recruitment. All candidates must submit a intermediate Word certificate and a typing certificate by the final filing date.  Candidates who fail to submit their intermediate Word certificate and typing certificate by the final filing date will be disqualified from this recruitment.

Typing Certificate Requirements: The typing certificate must contain a minimum NET speed of 50 words per minute.  It must be a timed 3 -5 minute test, include the gross number of words typed per minute, and the number of errors.  It may not be more than 12 months old at the time of application, and must be from an accredited school or a qualified agency with an examiner's signature.  Certificates obtained through the internet(online) will not be accepted.

Intermediate Word Requirements: The intermediate Word certificate must show intermediate proficiency at 70% or higher.  It may not be more than 12 months old at the time of application, and must be from an accredited school or qualified agency with an examiner's signature.  Certificates obtained through the internet(online) will not be accepted.

Typing and Word Processing Test provided by the County

The County is offering a Word processing and typing test at no cost, for applicants on 00/00/2018 for the Office Coordinator recruitment only. This is the only date available. Interested applicants who have completed and submitted the recruitment application must send an email to recruitment@solanocounty.com no later than 00/00/2018 at 1:00pm to request testing.

Veterans Preference Points
