Introduction
This is technical work in conducting gymnastics instruction. Bargaining unit position.
Nature Of Work
The employee in this class is responsible for instructing participants in the technical fundamentals of gymnastics dance, summer camps, and/or youth sports at an assigned recreation area. Under general supervision, the employee performs assignments which include ordering and maintaining necessary equipment. Tasks, which are of average difficulty, require the exercise of some initiative and independent judgement in planning and promoting gymnastics activities, dance, youth sports and/or summer camp activities.
Positions in this class will require work of some nights, weekends, and special events. Work is reviewed through observation, conferences, and results obtained.
Examples of Duties
Creates lesson plans, promotes, organizes, and teaches gymnastics, dance classes, summer camps, and/or youth sports; plans and promotes exhibitions; prepares participants for gymnastics meets and dance showcases; travels with youth sports programs, gymnastics and/or dance teams for competitive contests.
Develops training classes, curriculum, and lesson plans; provides assistance to instructors in the development of plans for classes and competition.
Organizes fund-raising projects; sets up gymnasium for all activities; orders, inspects and maintains gymnastics equipment; administers first aid; collects dues and completes financial records; traces and collects delinquent fees; ensures adherence to proper safety measures.
Performs related work as required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of: principles, rules, materials, and equipment requirements of gymnastics, dance, youth sports and summer camp activities.
Skills in: execution of youth sports, gymnastics and dance activities; use and care of pertinent equipment.
Ability to: plan, organize and oversee a specialized recreational activity; stimulate interest and enthusiasm of various age groups in youth sports, gymnastics and dance activities; organize and direct the work of others; administer first aid; perform activities requiring physical strength and endurance; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public. Able to demonstrate the execution of beginner and intermediate/advanced levels of instructions.
Physical Requirements
Mostly standing, recreation and a combination of working
indoors and outdoors. Requires some use
of computer, typing and viewing a monitor
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited high school and one (1) year of experience in collegiate sports, participation, coaching (paid or volunteer) in gymnastics, dance, summer camps, cheer or developmental youth sports.
Or
An equivalent combination of education (not less than possession of a high school diploma/GED), training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-related competencies noted above.
Licenses or Certifications
Possession of: a Standard First Aid Certificate and CPR Certificate within six (6) months of appointment
A valid Florida driver's license
U.S.A. Gymnastics Safety Certification or equivalent youth sports safety certification within one (1) year of appointment.
Comments
Employees
may be required to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays
and overtime as needed. During periods when the Mayor issues an emergency
declaration for the City of Tampa, all employees may be required to work in
preparation, response or recovery activities related to the stated emergency.
