Introduction

This is specialized work in overseeing, preparing and conducting gymnastics and dance programs.  Bargaining unit position.

Nature Of Work

An employee in this class is responsible for performing technical assignments of more than average difficulty in instructing participants in the technical fundamentals of gymnastics and/or dance at an assigned recreation area. Under general supervision, the employee performs assignments which include ordering and maintaining necessary equipment. Tasks require the exercise of reasonable initiative and independent judgement in planning and promoting gymnastics and/or dance activities. Positions of this class will require work of some nights, weekends, and special events. Work is reviewed through observation, conferences, and results obtained.  Please include all work experience, volunteer or paid into the application.

Examples of Duties

Plans, promotes, organizes, and teaches gymnastic and/or dance activities; plans and promotes gymnastics and/or dance exhibitions; prepares participants for gymnastics and/or dance competitions; travels with gymnastics dance team; obtains volunteers to assist with events; answers phone and provides information concerning programs and use of center. 

Oversees instructors in assigned divisions; organizes fund-raising projects; sets up gymnasium for all activities; orders, inspects, and maintains gymnastics equipment; administers first aid; conducts safety talks and monitors latest safety codes to facilitate compliance by employees; responsible for in-house staff training; insures security of buildings when leaving area.

 Maintains accurate records of attendance, property damage, special activities, and accidents; attends and conducts sessions at meetings, workshops and training clinics; coordinates programs and activities with coworkers and supervisor; assists in evaluation of lower level employees; promotes good public relations with community; receives, accounts for, processes, and deposits funds for payment. 

Performs related work as required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of: principles, rules, materials, record keeping, report writing, and equipment requirements of gymnastics and/or dance activities;  use and care of tools and equipment pertinent to gymnastics and dance.

Skill in: execution of gymnastic and/or dance activities; use and care of pertinent equipment.

Ability to: plan, organize and oversee a specialized recreational activity; stimulate interest and enthusiasm of various age groups in gymnastics and dance activities; organize and oversee the work of others; administer first aid; perform activities requiring physical strength and endurance; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public; demonstrate the execution of a class inclusive of beginner through competitive team level gymnastics and/or dance.

Physical Requirements

Mostly standing, recreation and a combination of working indoors and outdoors.  Requires some use of computer, typing and viewing a monitor

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited high school and completion of two (2) years of college and two (2) years of experience in collegiate sports, participation, coaching (paid or volunteer) in gymnastics, dance, summer camps, cheer or developmental youth sports.

An equivalent combination of education (not less than possession of a high school diploma/GED), training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-related competencies noted above.

Licenses or Certifications

Possession of a: Standard First Aid Certificate and CPR Certificate within six (6) months of appointment
 A valid  driver's license
 A U.S.A. Gymnastics Safety Certification within one (1) year of appointment

Comments

Employees may be required to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays and overtime as needed. During periods when the Mayor issues an emergency declaration for the City of Tampa, all employees may be required to work in preparation, response or recovery activities related to the stated emergency.
