This is responsible, technical instruction and gymnastics and dance program coordination work. Bargaining unit position.
The employee in this class is responsible for performing diverse, responsible, and technical assignments in support and development of a gymnastic and dance program. The employee also has responsibility for providing leadership for a specific segment of the program. Tasks performed are of more than average difficulty and include, but are not limited to, planning, developing, and conducting hands-on training sessions for department and other personnel in various gymnastics and/or dance activities to improve skills and increase exposure. Under general supervision, the employee is required to exercise reasonable initiative and independent judgement in planning, promoting, researching, developing, demonstrating, and teaching the technical fundamentals of gymnastics and dance. The employee also oversees the work of lower-level personnel. The nature of the
recreation function being performed requires that they employee work varying schedules including nights and weekends. Work is reviewed through observation, conferences, reports submitted, and results obtained.
>Plans, researches, and conducts diverse training sessions and workshops in gymnastic and dance related areas; organizes and teaches gymnastic and/or dance activities; plans and promotes gymnastic and dance exhibitions; prepares participants for gymnastic; and/or dance competition and showcases; travels with teams.
Supervises student instructors; organizes fund-raising projects; sets up gymnasium for all activities; orders, inspects, and maintains gymnastics equipment; administers first aid.
Oversees the work of lower level gymnastic instructors, custodial and seasonal personnel; insures efficient operation and maintenance of assigned areas and equipment; insures security of buildings when leaving area. Maintains necessary records and prepares reports; receives monies from class participants and makes deposits; writes receipts for supplies; purchases supplies or obtains donations from local businesses.
Performs related work as required.
Knowledge of: principles, rules, materials, and equipment requirements of gymnastic and/or dance activities; record keeping and report writing.
Skill in: execution of gymnastic and dance activities; use and care of pertinent equipment.
Ability to: plan, organize and supervise a specialized recreational activity; stimulate interest and enthusiasm of various age groups in gymnastics and dance activities; organize and direct the work of others; administer first aid; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public. Able to demonstrate the execution of a class inclusive of beginner through competitive team level gymnastics and/or dance.
Mostly standing, recreation and a combination of working
indoors and outdoors. Requires some use
of computer, typing and viewing a monitor
Graduation from an accredited high school and three years of college with three (3) years of experience in teaching gymnastics and/or dance;
or
An equivalent combination of education (not less than possession of a high school diploma/GED), training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-related competencies noted above.
Possession of a: Standard First Aid Certificate and CPR Certificate within six (6) months of appointment;
A valid Florida driver's license may be required;
U.S.A. Gymnastics Safety Certification within one (1) year of appointment.
Employees
may be required to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays
and overtime as needed. During periods when the Mayor issues an emergency
declaration for the City of Tampa, all employees may be required to work in
preparation, response or recovery activities related to the stated emergency.
