Directs the maintenance and operational effectiveness of the electrical, mechanical, heating and air conditioning, structural, janitorial, security, and sound systems of the convention center.
Reviews proposed convention events to determine floor plan layouts, equipment modifications and additions needed, and levels of staffing required; develops custom drawings for events; develops bid specs for labor contracts; advises lessees concerning facility configurations, services; schedules dates/times for proposed events; inspects premises utilized during and after events, assesses any damages or problems, and submits detailed account of the procedures followed.
Inspects work of convention center and contract event personnel (electricians, engineers, maintenance, security, custodial, catering, irrigation and grounds maintenance, fire alarm, HVAC software, chiller maintenance, etc.) to ensure that convention center operational policies and procedures are adhered to and that work is performed in accordance with quality and timeliness standards.
Develops specifications for projects to improve and maintain the facility, reduce the cost of operating expenses, and increase efficiency; works with convention center clients and with other city department personnel to coordinate on set-up and other needs.
Prepares reports and correspondence; assigns, develops, and evaluates staff; manages unit budget and work processes.
Performs related work as required.
Extensive knowledge of: operation of municipal convention center, including the methods, practices, procedures, equipment, and materials utilized in building, electrical, plumbing, heating and air conditioning, and related trades and of applicable codes, and regulations that apply to their installation, operation, modification, and repair; occupational hazards and safety precautions of facilities operation and maintenance; computerized electrical and mechanical systems; rules and regulations of city, county, and state entities regarding the operation of a variety of events.
Ability to: plan, assign, direct, and coordinate the work of a large staff of technical and skilled and unskilled craft employees in a manner that promotes full performance; design, read, and work from plans, schematics, and other drawings relating to building construction and renovation; establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, contractors and service providers, convention center clients, and the general public.
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in business administration, marketing, advertising, construction engineering or related field and five (5) years' experience in convention center operations, including experience at the supervisory and management level.
