Trims, cleans, installs, and adjusts water meter boxes; cleans, inspects, repairs, and replaces meter registers; repairs broken and damaged register glass; repairs or replaces damaged register meter boxes and covers.
Installs, repairs, or replaces damaged and worn meters; inspects installed meters, both operating and dead; repairs meter and coupling leaks; replaces damaged or broken meter couplings; participates in scheduled maintenance program for all meters; investigates complaints of malfunctioning meters and repairs or replaces as required; operates a motor vehicle in performance of assigned tasks, as required.
Applies lubricant to mechanical equipment; observes moving parts for proper safe operation and for factors leading to possible breakdowns; cleans tanks and replaces valves.
Receives on-the-job training in repair, reconditioning and overhauling of general mechanical equipment other than automotive; assists in removal, repair and/or replacement of complete mechanical units or any part thereof; assists in fabrication and repair of parts.

Places safety cones and warning lights in hazardous areas in order to protect pedestrians from construction work.
Approves minor deviations in construction methods and practices which conform to established precedent in order to facilitate project completion.
Connects circuits in new and existing cable network to controllers to facilitate operation.
Cuts and threads pipes in order to facilitate installation or repair.
Constructs shelves, cabinets, bookcases, partitions, shelters, and other wood or metal structures as needed for municipal facilities.
Fabricates, using welding equipment a variety of metallic equipment, parts, and materials.
Repairs mains, meter leaks, lines, etc.
Spray paints parking meters, dumpsters, and other equipment to have a clean and standard appearance.
Prepares materials and cost estimates for repair, maintenance, and inspection to ensure timely and efficient compliance.
Locates, uncovers, and brings to grade if necessary all valves; exercises valves and makes certain they are open.
Installs and modifies production equipment, machinery, and processing units for water production facilities to ensure proper operation.
Installs electrical motors and generators to facilitate pumping operations at municipal water/wastewater facilities.
Installs conduit system, above/underground systems, and pull boxes in order to facilitate operations.
Installs equipment including power appliances, large capacity pumps, drives, clarifiers, oxygen generation equipment, mixers, turbine generators, etc., in order to facilitate operations.
Operates camera to record job site violations/repairs; operates radio or communication equipment to communicate with necessary parties.
Sets by-pass headers and pumps.
Contacts others to obtain needed information.
Checks and prepares equipment to verify that equipment is ready for use.
Operates personal computer for technical or engineering data calculations, record keeping, etc.
Makes/checks field measurement and observations, using tape measure and other equipment as needed; reads, interprets, and works from blueprints, diagrams, and schematics.
Cleans and maintains tools, equipment, and vehicles to keep ready for use.
Performs yard operation such as clean up, minor repairs, sorting of scrap materials, and other related duties as required. Inspects inside and outside of buildings for illegal connections or use of fire-line service waters.
Checks for cross-connections on fire-line and portable water service.
Places safety barriers in road in order to warn drivers of potential problems.
Installs immobilizing devices to vehicle in violation (booting).
Picks-up parking tickets at the courthouse annex and police station and delivers to Ft. Brooks parking.
Prepares post for meter installation.
Performs preventive maintenance and repairs on parking meters in the field and in the shop to keep equipment in service.
Assembles and disassembles housing to be shipped to painters.
Installs chains and flags in lots and garages.
Checks to ensure that signal lights are working properly.
Transports people, material, tool, and equipment to and from sites to ensure efficiency and safety.
Removes graffiti throughout the city.
Performs technical analysis for specialized project.
Performs general maintenance work including welding, carpentry, plumbing, etc., to keep buildings and facilities in working condition.
Checks supplies/goods received against original invoice to verify that the supplies/goods match the original invoice.
Completes daily time/activity reports; completes paperwork to facilitate the ordering of uniforms, supplies, material, etc.; gathers information and completes forms (accident reports, consumer complaints, claims) to provide needed information.
Installs various signs at previously unsigned locations to facilitate traffic operations.
Operates and maintains electrical/mechanical shop equipment (light and medium).
Draws-up and references on permanent record card for files and microfiche.
Loads and unloads heavy items, including supplies, equipment, and materials manually in order to complete assigned duties.
Performs cement work (setting, pouring, etc.)
Performs maintenance and repair on gas engines to keep them in working conditions.
Performs related work as required.
Knowledge of: standard methods, practices, tools, materials, and equipment of the mechanical trade; operation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical hand tools; occupational hazards and appropriate safety precautions; records and storekeeping methods.

Ability
to lift 40-60 lbs., mostly standing and working outdoors. Requires some use of computer, typing and viewing a monitor.
