Inspects, repairs, and maintains buildings and working equipment at treatment plants or lift stations; performs minor electrical repairing, and rewiring of new electrical installations; maintains chemical storage facilities and equipment.
Performs maintenance, repair, fitting, and installation of steam, oil, and water lines of all sizes, as well as piping for chemicals, air systems equipment, electrical conduit, and other related items.
Performs and/or oversees installation, testing, maintenance, repair, and fabrication, when necessary, of water meters, parking meters, or garage gates; performs limited maintenance and minor adjustments on telemeter system; answers citizen complaints pertaining to meters; repairs leaks when necessary; meets with and assists municipal officials in solving meter related problems.
Repairs, maintains, overhauls, replaces and/or installs pumps, hydraulic and pneumatic valves, compressors, steam turbines, high pressure boilers, diesel engines, and electric motors; repairs and/or replaces bearings, shafts, sleeves, rollers, gear boxes, and other equipment parts; aligns couplings; adjusts and installs shoes and link chains in grit buildings; replaces seals, diaphragms, and flush systems on water softeners.
Operates and maintains tools and equipment necessary for performance of assigned tasks such as grinders, acetylene, and arc welding equipment; establishes and maintains records of maintenance performed, parts, and supplies inventory, as required.
Assumes supervisor’s responsibility when necessary.
Constructs shelves, cabinets, bookcases, partitions, shelters, and other wood or metal structures as needed.
Cuts, threads, and installs conduits above and below ground in order to supply electrical current to installations. Installs various automotive equipment such as batteries, filters, drain plugs, and other parts in municipal vehicles to ensure proper functioning of vehicles. Installs various signs at previously unsigned locations to facilitate traffic operations.
Installs personal computers, printers, modems, and controllers to ensure correct operation.
Builds concrete foundations to facilitate construction. Installs pre-parking layouts, prints parking spaces, marks traffic islands, and places temporary markings using painting machine to facilitate traffic control.
Tests irrigation system in order to detect and repair leaks and ascertain that system is in working order.
Reads, interprets, and works from blueprints, diagrams, and schematics.
Obtains estimates on small repair jobs in order to take corrective action.
Operates specialized electronic test equipment for parking control equipment.
Loads and unloads heavy items, including supplies, equipment, and material, manually in order to compare assigned duties; calls Candy in order to report underground excavation/digging.
Operates motor vehicle; transports people, materials, tools, and equipment to and from sites to ensure efficiency and safety.
Operates printers, plotters, back-up tape devices, and other computer peripheral devices in order to facilitate use of computer.
Maintains and fuels cars and trucks so vehicles are ready for operation.
Proof-reads own work to correct mistakes.
Schedules periodic testing of equipment to assure proper functioning.
Troubleshoots and repairs cash register/revenue control systems.
Repairs/welds trailer carts and sweepers at central maintenance.
Determines material, supply, equipment, and personnel requirements for jobs to determine cost and ensures proper and timely completion of work.
Maintains materials at each outpost, interbay, northwest, and Morris Bridge pumping station for the Water department.
Troubleshoots and repairs garage lighting fixture and controls.
Installs and modifies production equipment, machinery, and processing units for water production facilities to ensure proper operation.
Installs electrical motors and generators to facilitate pumping operations at municipal water/wastewater facility.
Gathers information and takes pictures for claims.
Pulls tap cards for meter locations.
Schedules large meter inspection with customer.
Performs related work as required.
Considerable knowledge of: standard mechanical, electrical and/or electronic maintenance and repair methods, as well as practices, materials, equipment, and tools of the mechanical trade; occupational hazards and appropriate safety precautions; use and care of mechanical, electrical, and electronic hand tools.
Working knowledge of: equipment inspection procedures and techniques.
Some knowledge of: records and storekeeping methods and procedures; training techniques.
Ability to: perform a wide variety of mechanical work (some positions might require physical strength); detect malfunctions in mechanical equipment; read and understand charts and diagrams; train lower level personnel; operate motor vehicle; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public.
Skill in: maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment in assigned area; use and care of mechanical tools and equipment.
