Nature Of Work

An employee in this class is responsible for overseeing the custodial care and maintenance of a major municipal facility. Under general supervision, employees perform tasks of average difficulty which involve participating in the cleaning and minor maintenance of buildings and the care of adjacent grounds and structures. Most work is of a manual nature, however, the employee is also responsible for controlling a supply inventory, keeping various sets of records, and issuing work orders for major repairs. An important part of work in this class is overseeing the activities of contracted and/or municipal maintenance personnel to assure that their work is performed properly and on a timely basis. The employee is required to exercise reasonable initiative and independent judgment in performing work assignments as many tasks are performed independently with little or no direct supervisory control. Some positions in this class require that work be performed at irregular hours including nights, weekends, and holidays. Work is reviewed through discussions, reports submitted, and results obtained.
