Plans, schedules, assigns, and reviews the work of municipal and/or contracted personnel engaged in the cleaning of buildings and the care of adjacent grounds and facilities.
Trims hedges and shrubs; operates light automotive equipment such as sedans, pickups, tractors, sweepers, and lawn mowers; edges sidewalks and parking lots; collects and disposes of refuse, leaves, lawn clippings, and other yard trash.
Performs minor plumbing, electrical, painting, and carpentry work; unclogs drains and changes light bulbs; performs janitorial work; sweeps, mops, and waxes floors; operates vacuum cleaners and other power-driven cleaning equipment; dusts furniture and fixtures; cleans rest room facilities; washes windows.
Maintains an inventory of janitorial and grounds maintenance tools, supplies, and equipment; requisitions, issues, and accounts for supplies, equipment, and materials; maintains records of material used, work schedules and completed assignments; issues work orders for major repairs.
Locks doors and windows of buildings at close of working day; notifies supervisor or police of any suspicious persons or occurrences in vicinity of the facility.
Constructs shelves, cabinets, bookcases, partitions, shelters, and other wood or metal structures as needed for municipal facilities; installs pre-parking layouts, paints parking spaces, marks traffic islands, and places temporary markings using painting machine to facilitate traffic control operations.
Loads and unloads heavy items, including supplies, equipment, and materials manually in order to complete assignments; maintains vehicles by fueling, washing, waxing, and minor repairs, etc.
Performs related work as required.
Working knowledge of: lawn maintenance tools, equipment, supplies, and procedures; janitorial tools, equipment, supplies, and procedures; records keeping and report preparation.
Some knowledge of: building maintenance and repair procedures.
Ability to: assign, schedule, oversee, and review the work of others; work under limited supervisory control; learn additional building maintenance and repair procedures; maintain an equipment and supply inventory and its associated records; establish and maintain effective working relationships with contracted personnel, supervisory, and other employees; perform tasks requiring physical strength and endurance; operate light motor vehicles and equipment.
Skill in: the use and care of janitorial and lawn maintenance tools; operation of light motor vehicles such as sweepers, mowers, etc.
