Plans, assigns, supervises, and reviews the work of subordinate personnel; provides training and establishes schedules for employees supervised; recommends employment, promotion, transfer, discipline, demotion, and dismissal of subordinate employees as necessary; serves as initial respondent to grievances; responds to employee leave requests; completes employee performance evaluations.
Supervises and participates in such activities of subordinate security guards as: patrolling municipal facilities on foot or in a motor vehicle to guard against fire, theft, vandalism, and other disruptive acts; ensuring that buildings, equipment, and materials are secured; checking gates and doors to ensure that they are locked; keeping unauthorized persons out of area and away from equipment and materials; observing any unusual conditions and resolving or reporting as circumstances require; requesting police, fire, or other assistance in resolving problems or quelling disturbances as necessary; detaining persons violating rules and regulations until police arrive, if needed; issuing notices of parking violations; assisting facility visitors by answering routine questions and providing information; maintaining order in the facility; maintaining visitor safety; monitoring security and fire detection systems; and, performing general custodial tasks.
Supervises event setup, crowd control and traffic control within facilities; supervises private security as necessary.
Conducts periodic checks of all areas patrolled by subordinates; observes performance of employees supervised; intervenes to resolve such difficult problems as unruly visitors with whom subordinates cannot reason.
Receives, investigates, and resolves or refers complaints regarding security functions from the public; explains rules and regulations to facility visitors courteously and tactfully; maintains records of activities conducted personally and by subordinates and prepares routine reports; recommends changes and improvements in security systems and procedures; operates digital paging system, radio, , telephone, etc. to communicate with necessary parties.
Provides traffic control at major parks, stadium/special events.
Performs related work as required.
Considerable knowledge of: security procedures and responsibilities; rules and regulations of assigned department or area.
Some knowledge of: the city, its geography and the location of park areas/parking facilities as required; effective supervisory techniques; custodial procedures as required; basic reporting and records keeping procedures; basic computer applications such as Windows and Microsoft office.
Ability to: plan, assign, schedule, supervise, and review the work of subordinate personnel; think and act quickly and calmly in emergencies; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, supervisor, and the general public; perform minor first aid procedures as required; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; maintain basic records and prepare routine reports.
Skill in: the operation of a motor vehicle as required.
Mostly outside work, able to lift up to 50 lbs., stand, works
outdoors very frequently. Requires some use of computer, typing and viewing a
monitor.
