Introduction

This is responsible stores and inventory control work in a lead capacity.  Bargaining unit position.

Nature Of Work

An employee in this class is responsible for performing lead worker activities necessary to the operation of a stores areas or warehouse. Work is of more than average difficulty and includes planning, organizing, and directing the activities of lower level employees in the receiving, storing and issuing of supplies, parts, and other materials. Under direction, employees are required to exercise reasonable initiative and independent judgement in operation of the assigned area. Employees participate in some personnel functions to include recommending hirings or promotions, providing input into performance evaluations, and recommending discipline when necessary. Work is reviewed through observation, reports submitted, and results obtained.

Examples of Duties

Oversees the ordering, receiving, storing, maintaining, and issuing of equipment, parts, tools, and supplies; makes decisions as to repair or replacement of damaged or worn parts; makes recommendations to procurement staff on acquisition of supplies.

Assigns, schedules, leads, and trains lower level personnel engaged in receiving, storing, and releasing items; provides input into employee performance evaluations; recommends hiring, promotions, training, and discipline as needed.

Coordinates with user department representatives on upcoming jobs to plan and schedule the ordering of necessary supplies and materials; does forecasting of usage to determine what to store and quantities.

Reviews parts and supplies manuals and catalogs and compares items meeting required specifications to obtain lowest prices when ordering; processes order documents completed by lower level personnel either by submitting or utilizing on-line computer system.

Maintains records and files of parts, supplies, and prices; maintains current information on account balance and inventory status; writes and submits various weekly, monthly, and annual reports.

Conducts annual inventory of materials, parts, and supplies.

Performs related work as required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Considerable knowledge of: equipment used and materials stored in the assigned area; methods, practices and procedures employed in warehousing activities; record keeping as employed in warehousing operations.

Working knowledge of: purchasing and requisitioning practices and procedures; effective supervisory/lead worker techniques.

Ability to: assign, schedule, and review the work of others; forecast purchasing needs based on upcoming projected work activities; establish and maintain clerical and financial records keeping systems; perform mathematical computations; conduct inventories; review price lists and materials specifications and draw sound conclusions; make and effectively present recommendations; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Physical Requirements

Mostly sedentary, indoors, requires extended use of computer, typing and viewing a monitor.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited high school or vocational school and seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in storekeeping and warehousing, some of which involved complex technical parts or specialized record keeping systems and supervisory or lead experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Licenses or Certifications

Possession of a valid Florida driver's license required.

Examination

Evaluation of education and experience. Drug testing is included in all pre-employment processing.

Comments

Employees may be required to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays and overtime as needed. During periods when the Mayor issues an emergency declaration for the City of Tampa, all employees may be required to work in preparation, response or recovery activities related to the stated emergency.
