Introduction

This is highly responsible professional work involving a superior writing ability for social media content creation and marketing campaigns.

Nature Of Work

An employee in this role will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing media-related events for various city departments and divisions, including spearheading press conferences and writing press releases and public remarks for city officials. They will generate innovative ideas for media events that showcase the city positively and assist in creating engaging social media content. This individual will write, review, and edit marketing material and coordinate content for the City of Tampa’s social media accounts, collaborating with various departments to promote their goals while aligning with the City's overarching message and image. The role is pivotal in maintaining the City’s credibility, requiring consistency in voice and brand. under general supervision, this position requires independent judgment, initiative, tact, and strong executive interaction skills. The role involves frequent driving, standing for extended periods, lifting equipment up to 50 pounds, and working in a fast-paced environment.

Examples of Duties

Create copy for diverse campaigns, considering goals, audience, and message.
Create social media videos, graphics, flyers, and other promotional materials.
Monitor social media trends and recommend actions.
Collaborate on content development for social networking sites.
Research, write, edit, and proof various materials including press releases, talking points, and video scripts.
Plan, coordinate, and execute media-related events for various city departments and divisions, including staging, print and distribution of materials, briefing of media reporters, photographers/videographers, and on-site support for events.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of: Proficient in English grammar, composition, various social media platforms, event planning, and public relations strategy.

Skills in: Windows-based computers, Apple iPhone, and iPad usage, Adobe Creative Suite, Photography, Videography, and Video Editing

Ability to: Communicate effectively, manage tight deadlines, work independently and collaboratively, adapt to changes, maintain quality control, drive independently to and from events citywide, work in a fast-paced environment.

Physical Requirements

Mostly sedentary, indoors, requires extended use of computer, typing and viewing a monitor. 

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, Communications, or related field and a minimum of two (2) years of experience in a communications or marketing-related position and or an equivalent combination of education (not less than possession of a high school diploma/GED), training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-related competencies noted above.

Licenses or Certifications

Valid Florida driver’s license required.

Examination

Evaluation of education and experience. Drug testing is included in all pre-employment processing.

Comments

Employees may be required to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays and overtime as needed. During periods when the Mayor issues an emergency declaration for the City of Tampa, all employees may be required to work in preparation, response or recovery activities related to the stated emergency.
