Enforces all City ordinances and official parks operating rules and regulations as promulgated by the department.
Oversees the day-to-day operation of the assigned park; meets the public and provides information concerning park operation; coordinates and oversees special events; develops and presents interpretive programs for visitors, students and other groups on nature, environment, flora, fauna, and similar topics; conducts nature tours; inspects park facilities and grounds and performs maintenance and repair work identified; recommends acquisition, changes and modifications to park equipment; requisitions materials for carrying out park operations; performs maintenance of grounds such as planting, mowing, trimming, spraying pesticides, etc.
Provides assistance to persons who are handicapped; initiates investigations of traffic accidents occurring within assigned park; makes proper disposition of nuisances, obstructions, dead animals, and other conditions which would tend to endanger the health, safety or convenience of the public; takes lost, stolen or abandoned property into custody and properly disposes of same.
Maintains peace and prevents disorder; patrols parks and park facilities on foot and by motorized vehicle to lessen the opportunity for crime and disorder within park boundaries; notifies Police Department of crimes and might initiate preliminary investigations of criminal offenses or incidents requiring police action until Police Officers arrive; renders first aid as required; takes necessary actions to report all persons observed violating the law; records relevant facts on appropriate forms and testifies in court when required.
Maintains records and prepares reports on attendance, community service worker hours, accidents, emergencies, vandalism, etc.
Performs related work as required.
Ability to: learn principles, accepted practices and methods of operating a municipal park; learn rules and regulations pertinent to parks operations; learn methods and techniques used in surveying maintenance needs for buildings and facilities; learn effective public relations principles and techniques; analyze problems and objectively deal with people; observe and record incidents clearly and completely and to prepare and present clear and concise reports both orally and in writing; act calmly and quickly in emergency and hazardous situations; establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, officials, other personnel, and the public.
Skill in: operation of a light weight motor vehicle and various parks and facilities maintenance tools.
Possession of: valid Florida driver's license, CPR and First Aid certificates.
Successful completion of a prescribed program of parking enforcement training.
Ability to obtain a Commercial driver’s license Class “B” with Air Brakes and Tanker endorsements and satisfactorily complete the Parks Maintenance course conducted by the National Recreation and Parks Association during the first year of employment.
