Supervise Special Event
Planning/Permitting; maintain operating policies and procedures; provide
direction for Special Event permitting process and the Master Special Event
Calendar.
Plan, organize and direct
staff in the day-to-day operations to include programming, maintenance, budget
and expense management.
Collaborate with partners
to produce signature and/or national events.
Oversee and apply business
practices for the reservation and use of park spaces.
Establish goals and
objectives; develop and/or approve schedules, priorities and standards for
achieving goals. Develop, review and make revision recommendations to
ordinances relating to special events.
Administer uniform
standards for the review and approval of special events or co-sponsorship
requests; provide oversight of the city’s Co-Sponsorship Committee, Special
Event Review Committee and special event appeal process.
Collect, organize, and
analyze programming data to develop partnership opportunities to meet current
and future needs.
Recommend employment,
promotion, discipline, demotion, and dismissal of assigned professional,
clerical and maintenance staff as necessary; complete employee performance evaluations
and ensure appropriate orientation and training.
Performs related work as
required.
Knowledge of: municipal rules, regulations and ordinances relating to special events. Considerable knowledge of applicable city, county and state rules regulation procedures and functions regarding all aspects of event management; effective public information dissemination principles and techniques; effective planning, scheduling and management techniques and procedures; production elements including crowd management, security, and the staging of events of varying scales including festivals, concerts, parades, races and walks; legal requirements of contracts and insurance.
Skills in: event coordination, vendor relationship management, research and analysis of data and writing.
Ability to: work independently or within a team; plan, assign, direct, and coordinate the work of subordinate technical, professional, and administrative support employees; creatively plan public activations to advance broader City of Tampa initiatives; prepare oral and written reports and impart them effectively; establish and maintain effective working relationships with management, employees, municipal officials, vendors, recreational partners and the general public; prepare and maintain records, program reports and statements.
Mostly sedentary, indoors, requires extended use of
computer, typing and viewing a monitor.
Graduation from an
accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in event planning,
parks management, parks and recreation administration, public or business
administration, or a related field and five (5) years of experience in parks
and recreation administrative activities; with a minimum of three (3) years in
supervisory experience.
An equivalent combination of education (not less than
possession of a high school diploma/GED), training and experience that would
reasonably be expected to provide the job-related competencies noted above.
