This is specialized work in performing and assisting in the teaching of theatre as well as in assisting in the designing and building of items for theatrical production.
An employee in this class is responsible for performing in touring theatrical productions; assisting with the design and/or creation of props, sets, and costumes; assisting in teaching theatre/art classes, workshops, and camps at various community centers. The ideal candidate will have experience in more than one aspect of theatre production and will be passionate about theatre education and theatre for youth. Work is reviewed through observation, conferences, and results obtained.
Rehearses and performs in touring theatrical productions.
Assists in the planning, organizing, and teaching of theatre/art workshops, classes and camps; assists with the
design/building and painting of all necessary props, set pieces and costumes for each touring production;
coordinates programs and activities with coworkers and supervisor;
promotes Creative Arts Theatre programming throughout the community;
performs related work as required.
Knowledge of: Acting and theatre production. Rehearsal and performance process and protocol; theatre production; the use and care of tools and equipment pertinent to theatre production.
Skills in: Acting; theatrical design; theatrical construction; use and care of pertinent equipment.
Ability to: Rehearse and perform when on tour; participate in specialized theatre education initiatives; stimulate interest and enthusiasm of various age groups in theatre; organize and execute work independently as well as collaboratively; maintain records and compile reports; perform duties requiring physical strength and endurance; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public. Passion for theatre education and some teaching experience preferred.
Graduation from an accredited high school with six (6) months of experience in specialized recreation programs, preferably in an instructional or theatrical performance capacity; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Possession of: Standard First Aid and CPR Certificates within six (6) months of appointment;
A valid Florida driver’s license; a Florida Commercial driver’s license, Class “C” with passenger endorsement within six (6) moths of appointment.
