Introduction

This is specialized work in performing and teaching theatre in a lead capacity as well as in designing and building items for theatrical production.

Nature Of Work

An employee in this class is responsible for performing in touring theatrical productions; designing and/or creating props, sets, and costumes; planning, promoting & teaching theatre classes, workshops, and camps at various community centers. Employees are required to exercise reasonable initiative and independent judgment in overseeing, coordinating and promoting Creative Arts Theatre activities. The ideal candidate will have experience in multiple aspects of theatre production and will be passionate about theatre education/theatre for youth. Work is reviewed through observation, conferences, and results obtained.

Examples of Duties

Plans, promotes, and conducts theatre arts activities Performs in a variety of theatrical programs.

Rehearses and performs in touring theatrical productions; plans, organizes, promotes and conducts theatre workshops, classes, and camps; assists with the design/building and painting of all necessary props, set pieces, and costumes for each touring production; assists the supervisor with administrative duties, including updating records, confirming performances, maintaining supply inventory, writing proposals, preparing promotional materials, and establishing and growing new community partnerships. 

Oversees lower-level personnel and provides input into performance evaluations for lower-level staff; attends and conducts sessions at meetings, workshops, and training clinics; serves as a liaison and promotes Creative Arts Theatre programming throughout the community; 

performs related work as required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of: Acting and theatre production, arts administration; public relations principles and practicesRehearsal and performance process and protocol; theatre production; the use and care of tools and equipment pertinent to theatre production. 

Skills in: Acting; theatrical design; theatrical construction; use and care of pertinent equipment.
 

Ability to: Rehearse and perform when on tour; plan, organize, and oversee specialized theatre education initiatives; stimulate interest and enthusiasm of various age groups in theatre; organize and execute work independently as well as collaboratively; oversee the work of others; provide leadership in coordinating and conducting Creative Arts Theatre activities; maintain records and compile reports; perform duties requiring physical strength and endurance; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public. Passion for theatre education and some teaching experience preferred. 


Physical Requirements

Mostly sedentary, indoors, requires extended use of computer, typing and viewing a monitor.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited high school and completion of two (2) years of college and three (3) years of experience in educational theatre and/or visual art education, preferably in an instructional capacity; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Licenses or Certifications

Possession of: Standard First Aid and CPR Certificates within six (6) months of appointment;

A valid Florida driver’s license; a Florida Commercial driver’s license, Class “C” with passenger endorsement within six (6) moths of appointment.
