This position is responsible for recreation work with special programs in fine arts and special events with citizens of all ages and abilities.  Bargaining unit position.

An employee in this class is responsible for programs such as fine arts activities for citizens of all ages and abilities.  Tasks are of average difficulty and include teaching, instructing, and participating in a variety of activities.  Under general supervision, the employee in this class of work performs the assigned tasks independently.  The employee is required to exercise some initiative and independent judgement in planning and conducting activities for all ages and abilities.  The employee might be required to work varying schedules which might include nights and weekends, and to travel to various locations.  Work is reviewed through observation, conferences, reports submitted, and results obtained. 

Plans, promotes, and conducts recreational programs; teaches and/or oversees fine arts classes for citizens of all ages and abilities.

Operates equipment necessary to studio/workshop needs. 

Develops and teaches classes in fine arts such as ceramics, metalsmithing, drawing, painting, printmaking, fabric, digital arts.

Performs clerical work; prepares and submits reports; organizes supply lists for program activities; checks in and puts supplies away; assists with inventory of supplies, receives monies from class participants and enters information into our tracking system, maintains records, logs, lists, and forms.

Inspects recreational/studio/workshop facilities and equipment to ensure safety; enforces proper safety practices, and occupational safety rules and regulations; oversees operations of assigned area in absence of higher-level workers; ensures security of building.

Directs visitors at center; answers phone and provides information concerning programs and use of centers.

Performs related work as required.

Knowledge of:  teaching techniques, basic records keeping, arts materials, care and use of equipment applicable to a wide variety of recreation, fine art, and special events.

Ability to:  coordinate, teach and conduct programs in fine arts; counsel and advise participants; maintain records and compile reports; establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, community groups, and the public; perform activities requiring moderate physical strength and endurance; plan and conduct fine art programs and classes; work with citizens of all age groups and abilities.

Mostly sedentary, indoors, requires extended use of computer, typing and viewing a monitor.

Graduation from an accredited high school and completion of one (1) year of college with coursework in visual arts, or a closely related field with one (1) year of experience in visual arts in an instructional capacity; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Possession of a: Standard First Aid Certificate; CPR Certificate within six (6) months of appointment;

A valid driver’s license; some positions might require a Florida Commercial driver’s license, Class “C” with passenger endorsement within six (6) months of employment.
