This position is responsible for recreation work with special programs in fine arts and special events with citizens of all ages and abilities. Bargaining unit position.
An employee in this class is responsible for programs such as fine arts activities for citizens of all ages and abilities. Tasks are of average difficulty and include teaching, instructing, and participating in a variety of activities. Under general supervision, the employee in this class of work performs the assigned tasks independently. The employee is required to exercise some initiative and independent judgement in planning, scheduling, teaching, conducting/performing, and overseeing activities for all ages and abilities. The employee might be required to work varying schedules which might include nights and weekends, and to travel to various locations. Work is reviewed through observation, conferences, reports submitted, and results obtained.
Plans, promotes, and conducts recreational programs; teaches and/or oversees fine arts classes for citizens of all ages and abilities; schedules center activities.
Develops and teaches classes in fine arts such as ceramics, metalsmithing, drawing, painting, printmaking, fiber, digital arts.
Performs clerical work; prepares, maintains, and submits reports; organizes supply lists for activities; estimates materials required for arts; checks in and puts supplies away; assists with inventory of supplies, receives monies from class participants and enters information into our tracking system; maintains records, logs, lists, and forms for a variety of studio/workshop functions.
Consults with individuals and groups representing the target populations to determine recreation needs and interests.
Inspects recreational/studio/workshop facilities and equipment to ensure safety; enforces proper safety practices and occupational safety rules and regulations; ensures security of building; oversees operations of assigned area in absence of higher-level workers.
Directs visitors at center/studio; answers phone and provides information concerning programs and use of centers.
Performs related work as required and all additional duties assigned by supervisor.
Knowledge of: Teaching techniques and materials, basic records keeping, aids, care of and use of equipment applicable to a wide variety of fine art.
Skill in: administering first aid and CPR; care/maintenance of equipment such as loading and unloading pottery and glass kilns; mixing glazes for pottery classes; operating power tools for studio/workshop needs.
Ability to: coordinate, teach, and conduct classes and programs in fine arts, counsel and advise participants; oversee the work of others; maintain records and compile reports; establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, community groups, and the general public; stimulate participation and support for activities from target populations, municipal officials and outside agencies; perform activities requiring moderate physical strength and endurance.
Mostly sedentary, indoors, requires extended use of computer, typing and viewing a monitor.
Graduation from an accredited high school and completion of two (2) years of college coursework in visual arts or theatre, or a closely related field, with three (3) years of experience in an instructional or performance capacity; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Possession of a: Standard First Aid Certificate; CPR Certificate within six (6) months of appointment;
A valid Florida driver’s license; some positions might require a Florida Commercial driver’s license, Class ”C” with passenger endorsement within six (6) months of employment.
