Plans, organizes, schedules, directs and coordinates the Mayor’s Youth Corps and the Mayor’s Youth Leadership Council; organizes minor and major events, programs, classes for these organizations including identifying and scheduling outside facilitators and speakers.
Creates curriculum for leadership development sessions, instructing students in how to plan public events, facilitate both adult and youth events and how to interact confidently with the public.
Arranges and supervises travel annually with students to state and national conferences booking hotel, air fare, ground transportation and overseeing the student delegates during the conferences.
Serves as a resource for volunteer opportunities for the community at large.
Frequently provides city tours and handles community inquiries referred by the Mayor’s office.
Consults with other cities on youth council or commission topics.
Makes public presentations to local, state and national groups on a variety of related topics as requested.
Serves as a representative of the City of Tampa on the Partnership for Out of School Time and works with the Children’s Board of Hillsborough County on community-wide youth development initiatives.
Serves as a liaison to the board of directors of Starting Right, Now, a local nonprofit working with unaccompanied minors.
Serves as coordinator for Heart Walk and March of Dimes Walk for Babies events.
Performs other related work as assigned.
Extensive knowledge of: youth development theory, curriculum development, youth mentoring and principles and practices of volunteer program administration.
Considerable knowledge of: community resources related to youth development and volunteer program administration, public relations procedures and program marketing methods.
Working knowledge of: effective administration and supervision of youth and volunteers; record keeping; database management and research techniques; report writing; first aid and CPR.
Ability to: coordinate multiple youth and volunteer programs; establish and maintain effective working relationships with related community agencies; maintain records and compile reports: perform activities requiring light to moderate physical exertion; operate a computer and related software; operate a light motor vehicle when required.
