The employee in this class is responsible for tasks of considerable difficulty involving the coordination of department wide public relation efforts and project coordination for the community redevelopment areas of the City of Tampa. Under general direction, the employee in this class is responsible for overseeing communications and marketing contracts initiated as a CRA funded project. Tasks are of more than average difficulty and involve extensive contact with government officials and public/private entities (e.g. Community Redevelopment Agency, City Council, City Administration, CRA Managers and their Community Advisory Committees). Under general supervision, the employee will coordinate and develop recommendations for the implementation of marketing programs and projects as well as CRA department initiatives. Duties require a high degree of tact and courtesy in dealing with a variety of private and public contacts. Work is reviewed through conferences, written reports, and observation of results obtained.
Oversees the marketing of CRA programs, projects and activities for the eight community redevelopment areas in the City of Tampa.
Collaborates with four CRA managers in identifying their CRA public outreach needs and coordinates communications, marketing, and public relations to align with their CRA plans.
Writes clear, CRA focused communications for social media campaigns, websites, newsletters, and press releases for targeted demographics that provide information and updates on CRA projects, programming, and events within the CRA district.
Provide communications, marketing, and public relations support for the department and community redevelopment areas. Works with the Public Affairs department to disseminate department news, events and achievements.
Develops and maintains positive working relationships with CRA Board, City Administration, multiple Community Advisory Committees and the public.
Develops, updates and coordinates the CRA Communications and Public Relations Action Plan through a collaborative process with internal and external stakeholders.
Assist in the coordination, development, production, and dissemination of informational material and marketing collateral, which may include graphics/digital items and print material such as brochures, press releases, flyers, media kits, and postcards
Manage special projects such as awards submissions, annual reports, redevelopment tours, and/or videos.
Represent the CRA and provide coverage at other community events to promote CRA projects, programs, events, etc.
Monitors local, state and Federal legislation and regulations relating to community redevelopment areas, and reports findings, trends and recommendations to Director.
When directed, implements special public relations and business development programs; assists with the budget development for the CRAs; attends various public meetings including CAC Meetings and CRA Board Meetings as needed; Serves on professional Boards and Committees as requested.
Conduct CRA 101 workshops for Community Advisory Committee members and Neighborhood Association representatives.
Participates in intradepartmental performance improvement initiatives to enhance redevelopment efforts.
Performs related work as required.
Considerable knowledge of: familiarity of mainstream and community-based media channels; professionally represent the department and the city; exercise independent judgement in implementing communications and public relations action plan; communicate effectively to a wide variety of stakeholders; redevelopment activities; community engagement strategies; plan implementation; strong photography skills.
Some knowledge of: federal, state, and municipal legislation impacting redevelopment programs; techniques of marketing, communications, and public relations; real estate development in both private and public sectors, principles, practices, and methods of commercial, mixed-use residential, and site development.
Ability to: plan and coordinate the work of consultants, professional, para-professional, and clerical in a manner that promotes full performance; write and speak clearly and succinctly in a variety of communication settings and prepare analytical and technical reports; perform community engagement activities and presentations; develop marketing materials and rollout for CRA Programs; establish and maintain effective working relationships with city officials, directors, managers and employees, officials of other governmental organizations, representatives of public and private organizations, developers, community groups, and the general public; serve effectively in a lead capacity as required.
Possession of a valid driver’s license required.
