Accepts applications and required documents submitted for approval prior to issuance of residential and commercial building permits; verifies documents to ensure that such requirements as value, legal description, address, contractor, explanation of work to be done, fire limits, engineer or architect’s seal, and Historical/Business District approval are complete and included; computes square footage of work to be done; prepares routing sheets to accompany plans which are submitted for approval; verifies and completes applications and issues permits for new construction, repair, remodeling, signs, roofing, house moving, demolition, site clearing, and tree removal; performs administrative functions such as document copies, Certificates of Occupancy, electrical power releases and related duties; calculates permit and administrative fee payments based upon an established fee schedule; collects monies due city.
Checks contractor’s license for work scope allowed under City of Tampa Interlocal Agreement; refers contractors to website and helps with problems that arise.
Reviews applications for historical buildings and zoning for demolition permits; calculates transportation impact fees for residential projects.
Verifies that grade and fill applications have been completed for the Stormwater Management Division; in flood areas, determines Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) flood zone information provided and ensures that a survey is attached and that application for post construction elevation certificate is filled out to be completed prior to issuance of certificate of occupancy.
Issues Fire Marshal related permits; assists customers with Internet permits.
Inputs, updates and maintains projects for Plan Review Coordination and scheduling; tracks all plans review assignments and notifies customers of plan review status; prepares plans for storage.
Reviews and inspects building and site plans and documents for accuracy on all additions, screen enclosures and/or accessory buildings to determine compliance with city code; schedules inspections and maintains all relevant records.
Operates a computer to prepare correspondence, issue permits, create and maintain records and reports.
Performs related work as required.
Knowledge of: standard office practices and procedures; administrative skills; Microsoft Office applications; basic building construction.
Ability to: establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public; perform basic mathematical calculations with accuracy.
Possession of a valid Florida driver’s license is required.
Possession of an International Code Council Certified Permit Technician certification or ability to obtain within one (1) year of employment.
