Introduction

This is highly responsible supervisory work at Stormwater Operations or Wastewater Collections.

Nature Of Work

An employee in this class is responsible for ensuring the efficiency, productivity and effective performance of a team at either the Water Distribution, Stormwater Operations or Wastewater Collections Division. Under limited direction, the employee performs tasks of more than average difficulty requiring the exercise of considerable initiative and independent judgment. Team Leaders also assists with maintaining the Collection system zone teams performing duties such as, emergency response, sewer cleaning, TV Inspections, preventive maintenance, and emergency repair activities, to ensure the reliable, efficient, and cost effective operations of the Collection system. An important aspect of this job is coaching, motivating and training of team members. This position requires flexibility and being available during emergency situations and may serve in an on-call status on a rotational basis. This position also requires candidate to be available 24/7 for after hour notifications and may be required to report to work after hours, including, nights and weekends during emergencies. Work is reviewed through conferences, reports submitted, and results obtained.

Attends daily, weekly, monthly, team meetings with agenda forwarded to leadership; attends quarterly round table evaluations among team leaders; provides budget inputs; Monitors and ensures regulatory compliance.

Develops effective team members to include providing goals and objectives; coaches and motivates other team members; reinforces and supports training and the use of business skills, technical skills, and team skills; deals with personnel issues and administers discipline when required; communicates needs and expectations; evaluates performance: trains subordinates.

Co-develops, reviews, and implements plans and goals; coordinates the work with other teams, support groups, and leadership; solicits input from team members; creates and maintains related reports and records.

Performs related work as required.

Physical Requirements

Ability to lift 40-60 lbs., mostly walking, standing and a combination of working indoors and outdoors. Requires some use of computer, typing and viewing a monitor.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited high school or vocational school and five (5) years of experience in leading or working in a team environment, preferably with stormwater operations, wastewater collections or comparable industrial experience; or an equivalent combination of related training or experience.

Licenses or Certifications

Possession of a valid Florida driver's license. *(Florida “A’ CDL, with tanker endorsement, FWCPOA Class “A”, “B”, “C” Collection Certifications.  FDOT Advanced MOT certification, NASSCO PACP, MACP, LACP Certification.  NIMMS 100,700,300,400 certifications).

Examination

Evaluation of education and experience. Drug testing is included in all pre-employment processing.

Comments

Employees may be required to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays and overtime as needed. During periods when the Mayor issues an emergency declaration for the City of Tampa, all employees may be required to work in preparation, response, or recovery activities related to the stated emergency. A person in this position may also be assigned to perform duties as an ERC Commander role during a storm activation.
