Performs tasks at a municipal refuse scalehouse during a work shift to include: customer service and cashiering tasks which involve operating a computerized scale for determining weight of refuse, assessing charges, and receiving payments from private citizens and commercial agencies; checking to ensure that refuse is in compliance with operating rules and regulations; assisting in the daily balancing of all cash receipts and accounts receivable for work shift; assisting in preparation of periodic and special financial and operating reports.
May assist in making date entries and inquiries through online MSS system, maintaining filing system for disposal tickets generated by credit customers and prepares for end of day balancing; operates computerized scale to verify customer account information; counts cash receipts and balance report at the end of shift to ensure proper accountability of transactions; prepares reports and tickets for archives and retrieval; performs minor maintenance on various office equipment.
Drives light automotive equipment as required.
Provides information, assistance, and service to the general public, employees, and others in person, by telephone and other forms of communication.
Communicates via radio with employees within the department as well as contractors onsite.
Manually writes scale tickets when automated system is not functional.
Secures facility and equipment at the close of the workday.
Performs related work as required.
Working knowledge of: the services and functions of a municipal refuse transfer station, scalehouse and waste-to-energy facilities; laws and rules governing procedures and legal requirements encountered in government operations, specifically in solid waste management operations; effective customer service practices and techniques; standard office practices, procedures and equipment usage; office records keeping practices and methods; the practices and procedures of cashiering; business mathematics.
Some knowledge of: occupational hazards and appropriate safety precautions.
Ability to: make routine decisions in accordance with established policies and procedures; receive cash, record payments and calculate and give change with speed and accuracy; communicate effectively with persons of diverse social and economic backgrounds; perform routine mathematical calculations with speed and accuracy; maintain records and prepare clear and concise reports and cash receipts; understand and follow oral and written instructions; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public.
