Supervises the work of departmental road mechanics; monitors service level agreements (SLAs) with Fleet Maintenance Division of Public Works; makes recommendations for altering preventive maintenance criteria based on changing operating conditions; revises maintenance schedules to assure sufficient availability of equipment to perform core mission.
Supervises routine physical safety inspections of vehicles to include debriefing of operators and drivers for maintenance and repair by Fleet Maintenance Division of Public Works; responsible for the Tire Maintenance Program; provides training and safety recommendations to leadership team and the Safety and Loss Prevention Specialist.
Supervises the delivery, removal, maintenance, and repair activates of refuse containers used by the department; uses integrated automatic vehicle location and radio frequency identification (RFID) technology for efficient operations.
Supervises departmental inventory control activities using computerized inventory control records; analyzes, classifies and monitors inventory on a continuing basis; periodically reviews stock items for possible deletion or disposal.
Coordinates facilities and property improvements or repairs through various funding sources.
Coordinates vehicle, equipment, refuse containers, and inventory acquisitions with leadership team; performs research to aid in the preparation, review, and updating of specifications and budget preparation for vehicle, equipment, and refuse container acquisitions; prepares and presents annual Vehicle & Equipment Replacement Report, Refuse Container Inventory Report, and Inventory Asset List.
Assist with providing a sustained, dynamic, and cost effective maintenance of departmental assets.
Plans, assigns, supervises, and reviews the work of subordinate clerical, technical, and mechanical personnel; provides training, technical advice and guidance to subordinates.
Performs related work as required.
Extensive knowledge of: standard methods, practices, tools, and equipment used in automotive and mechanical maintenance repair;
Considerable knowledge of: standard methods, practices, and procedures employed in acquisition, storage and issuance of inventory items; occupational hazards and applicable safety precautions.
Ability to: assign, schedule, supervise, and review the work of others; conduct vehicle and equipment inspections for malfunctions; establish and maintain clerical and inventory systems; perform mathematical computations with speed and accuracy; accurately conduct inventories; review price lists and material specifications, and draw sound conclusions; prepare and submit clear, concise, and accurate reports; make and effectively present recommendations; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Skill in: computers (Excel, Word, reporting software); record keeping; communication.
Graduation from an accredited college, high school or vocation school with course work in engineering technology, automotive technology, or related fields and (5) years of experience in the operation, maintenance or repair of a variety of heavy maintenance/solid waste or construction vehicles and equipment, preferably (3) years of experience in the development of specifications and/or vehicle maintenance related work including on (1) year in supervisory or lead experience; or and equivalent combination of training and experience.
NOTE: Bachelor’s degree preferred. ASE or EVT certifications may be substituted for the college.
